interesting you say "the originals are usually better" because in x-men, the "first class" movie are the back stories of the "originals"---they pre-date the originals in the story line, so in a peculiar sense, they can be considered the originals.

well that makes the choice tougher---im a big fan of Frankenstein, the three musketeers, the hunchback of notre dame and Dracula for instance. and your wiki page calls cooper a romanticist!

ah, thankfully a no-brainer. novels over short stories, although short stories are indeed enjoyable. I read a bunch by hawthorne I liked last year. typically I don't read them though.

edgar rice burroughs' tarzan books or edgar rice burroughs' martian tales?

With "originals" I mean the first movie(s) that were produced first. I´m not thinking of the story line. If the first product is a success they tend to make sequels to the story and/or previous story but the quality may not be the same.

You needn´t make a choice at all. I didn´t want to complicate but it is always dangerous to encorage a favorite subject. ;)

i love the first class movies, but my favorite of all the x-men movies, is x-men first class: days of future past.

the movie combines elements from both time periods in it.

john carter is the main character in the martian tales. a movie was made a few years ago, called "john carter," combining elements from more than one book. I liked it, but a lot of hardcore john carter fans were critical of it.

i might lean slightly towards the martian tales but maybe the next tarzan book i read will swing me back the other way.

peanuts for sure...though my favorite cartoon strips are bloom county, the far side, calvin & hobbes, dennis the menace and foxtrot.

books with page turning story lines... Big fan of Burroughs... movie John Carter welcomed/watched over & over because nothing else is out by Burroughs recently, the piker; sure it has its flaws, but that could be said of any lit>screen (think "Battlefield Earth" as an extreme). toast and tea in the morning is one of the highlights of my day, but I love bagels too and if finances were different, might be eating them more often.

sci-fi wise, id go for the newer movies---I think the special effects from the late 70s onwards make the experience more enjoyable and the story telling seems more creative.

tough choice for me too. I just finished a book on bataan that I really enjoyed. im probably more acquainted with the European side, especially as I like survival literature and there seems to be more prison/concentration camp material from there.

heck, I probably haven't watched a full nba game in decades, and even then, I think it had been decades prior to that one. so nfl---but if I had to be watching sports on tv, there are plenty of others id rather be watching.

Haven´t read any of them. I remember vaguely that The Firm was a bestseller and/or blockbuster in Brazil so I go fraudulentely with Grisham.

Prose. Most books i read and that i consider my favorites are prose style books.

I usually prefer prose too.
