Chava what happened to Loki???
The person above me ought to know that Loki (the mythical Norse god, not the forum member :D) disguised himself as a giantess and arranged the murder of Baldr (god of innocence, beauty, joy, peace). When other Norse gods discovered Loki arranged the murder, they killed his son, hunted him, and tied him to boulders, letting snake venom drip on him. :eek2:
Quite terrifying!
The person above me usually makes good comments and asks very intresting questions that need carful reflection on them.
The person above me will hopefully *not* be lost in an ocean of destiny. :) He also makes very interesting comments and...well I don't want to repeat myself...hmm...and is going onto 250 posts! :D Congratulations!
Ah, well, it all happened because of Balder (or Baldur, depending on your source). There was a prophecy that Balder would die, even though he was a god. All living and even non-living things swore never to hurt him - *except* for mistletoe. Mistletoe refused to promise not to harm Balder. Well. The gods didn't really mind. It wasn't as if a twig of mistletoe would ever do any harm.Quote:

It just so happens that one of the gods, Hod, Balder's twin brother, was blind. "Why aren't you taking part in the fun," asked Loki.
"I wouldn't be able to see where I was aiming," explained Hod, gesturing his eyes.
"Oh, what a pity," said Loki, producing a stick of misteltoe from his pocket. "But if you like - I'll guide your hand, and you can throw this little stick at him. Just so you don't miss out on the fun."
Hod gratefully accepted, laughing as Loki positioned his hand so it was pointing directly at Balder.
Hod threw the mistletoe dart - and it killed Balder.
Loki's daughter, Hel (goddess of death and sickness), wouldn't let Balder return to earth (though he did have a resurrection, eventually, from what I recall). So yeah, all the gods were in mourning, Balder was like one of the most important ones. Hm. Odin (Loki's half/foster-brother, also king of the Norse gods) got understandably angry with Loki, and Loki understandably escaped Valhalla, and went to live in a lake as a fish (he was a shape-changer)...and after a great chase and other transformations, the gods caught the fish and took him up to a cave at the top of a mountain and forced him to change back. Loki's punishment was to stay in the cave with a great serpent dripping terribly painful venom on him forever. Well. Until Ragnarok. In Ragnarok (the end of the world) Loki escapes from the cave (and his son, the Fenrir-Wolf devours Odin), and then a totally new world will be formed.
Of course, all of that's just a legend. None of that is ever likely to happen to *me*. :D :D :D
