i suspect danik, given wide open spaces, that they'll just look at each other and poof wont attack her. meanwhile, I have a neighbor with cats and she's apparently not feeding them well enough because they come down and pilfer poofs food, and also howl on my front porch.

The food attracts the cats, specially in winter. And cats have this talent for multiplying themselves. It worked better when you had only Spritzer and could keep her indoors. With the coming of spring I think these cats will disperse, but as long there is food on the porch you risk having a cat colony there. Maybe if you take the bowl away after poof has eaten, things will get better, as they are probably attracted by the smell of the food.

no cat colony danik, just my neighbor who apparently underfeeds hers. I do get your point though about picking up poofs food. im reluctant to do that. leaving it out gives her opportunity for more.
I made a new hut for her, with a shelter inside the shelter. shes been using the outer one but not the inner one yet. I might make some adjustments to it.

Observe if poof uses the new shelter. Before adopting my cat Babalu, I provided her with a small dog hut. She used the hut, but wasn't very comfortable in it, possibly because she didn't have an outlook on possible attackers. The food attracts other cats, but if it is only one you're able to manage it. I hope for you that all this absent neighbors will arrive soon and take care of their cats.

we're in the dead of winter danik, so im pretty sure its poof with me until at least april. yes, she likes the shelter and its better than the previous one I had for her. there is inner shelter inside it that I don't think she's used yet. sometime soon im going to try to make that more inviting for her.
