Read a little harder
Try people, just try. The book isn't nearly as hard as you say it is, I enjoyed the book completely. It is complicated on a miniscule level, the entire line of the story is smooth. True, there is a lot of confusing symbols but I understand most. How about yellow, if the other colors symbolize something what does yellow. I've heard it means materialism, flashiness, cowardess and about two dozen other things. If the book ended any other way though I would not have been satisfied

I'm sorry to tell you this Amy, but the sheer fact of your not being able to write a grammatically correct review of "The Great Gatsby" shows that there is a very good chance you have no idea what you are talking about. Gatsby is considered great for a few different reasons, one of which being the fact that he is the only character in the book pursuing a pure, moral form of the American dream. Rather than being on a quest for material wealth and popularity, Gatsby is seeking the much more noble pursuit of love.
If anyone wishes to reply to me, please don't do so in a form that looks like a seventh grader's instant message to their boyfriend, as the message just below Amy's has done.

Gatsby
I read this book for my 11th grade Honors English course.
The Great Gatsby is a great book. Though I think a lot of people are misreading it... It is without a doubt a personal reflection of Fitzgerald's life. Gatsby makes the money to throw the parties to get Daisy's attention. Fitzgerald is relating to his life how he always has to keep working and make money to support the type of life style his wife, Zelda, wanted.
If you think the movie is good... Shame on you. That is the worse representation of Daisy that could have ever been made. I've actually talked to some college professors who agree and not to mention my Honors English teacher.
You must understand the implications that go with this book. Fitzgerald felt a need to lash out the only way he could. He was a heavy partying man but as time went on... He realized its consequences. After he learned of Zelda's affair he was forever a changed man. To say you don't like The Great Gatsby is fine. However, it is not the book's fault your mind is too simple to think what might be below the surface. This book was written with excellent purpose and care (literally -- Fitzgerald rewrote every chapter several times before he was satified to move to the next). To bash a man who lived a very difficult life like him and to say his book is crap... Is to show your ignorance to what reading, learning and comprehending are all about.

The Great Gatsby
I am being forced to read this awful book and then to write an essay about it. It took everything I had to get through it. If you are thinking about reading it I have one piece of advice for you: don't do it.

Gatsby
was Gatsby a success or a failure? did he succeed or not succeed. that is the question. this was a great classic book that really tells about the lives of us as human beings. if your confused about american thinking, read this. of course, things change and people are all different so dont base all of your knowledge on this book. in some ways, this book was confusing but all around it was good. i dont think gatsby really succeeded in finding himself. he never won daisy and never won happiness.

Jordan Baker
I thought that the Great Gatsby was an okay book. Before I read it everyone commeneted on how great it was, but really it did not live up to my expectations at all. For one. I didn't really understand what the purpose of having Jordan Baker in the novel at all besides to tell Nick the story behind Gatsby's love for Daisy. Fitzgerald didn't do a good job in describing as nothing much else besides a Golf player. Throughtout the novel I found myslef wondereing who she really was supposed to be, and one of the reasons i love to read is because I love to understand the charectors and relate to them. A good author should describe them more vivdly.

Great Gatsby Review
It seems to me that everyone i know likes the book the great gatsby, but on a personal level i did not like it. In my opinion it could have been a lot better. It does do a good job on depicted Amercan people but was that the books main purpose? It's hard to tell what kind of readers Fitzgerald is trying to get to read his book. But it's very popular so i guess it reacehs out to a lot of people.

The Great Gatsby, I thought, was a fine masterpiece done by Fitzgerald. Read it for my junior year in high school and I thought it was a great book. What's interesting about the book, is that it's based on Fitzgerald's life. Fitzgerald asked a woman to marry him and she turned him dowm, because he was poor. In the book, Fitzgerald uses Gatsby and Daisy to play as him and the woman he fell in love with.

Personally, I think that this book is too boring and too deep for a normal High School student to enjoy. Had I been assigned this book later in my life such as 12th grade or later, I may have actually enjoyed this book, but since i was forced to read it in the 9th grade, I will never like it. I think that it is a good book for more mature readers, but it will never be taken seriously or taken to heart if students are forced to read this book at a young age.

This book may have been enjoyable, but now i will never want to read it again.

I thought perhaps I had missed something in my reading of tgg. surely there must be some underlying messages i wasn't able to discern. so, i surf the net for some analyses. no, i didn't miss anything. there's simply not a lot to this book. perhaps the style is what makes so many ppl speak so highly of it. as far as substance though it's a drop in the bucket. good for high school students i suppose.

i've just finished reading "The Great Gatsby" and i personally think it is a book written extremely well by Fitzgerald, but one has to bring up the discussion of Gatsby and Daisy's relationship? When reading through some other comments everyone stated how pure Gatsby's love was for Daisy, but i'd have to say otherwise. i feel gatsby only wanted Daisy to love him so they could get married and fulfill the American dream - that is of being one of wealth, high status, and marriage. Gatsby wasn't so much in love with Daisy, but instead full of all possessions. He has the house, the money, now all he needs is the woman. Also, by having Daisy he would feel superior to Tom (one who has everything). so maybe Gatsby wasnt' so much in love with Daisy, but instead in love with the idea of having Daisy and everything else that would provide him with the american dream. Please reply i wanna know what you think! thankz!

Gatsby
While I am grade twelve, I was not forced to read this book, I did so on my own. I found it to be a truly excellent piece of literature. I can't see how anyone who appreciates good writing could possibly have found TGG boring. There are a lot of other 'classics' that are much, much more boring. I found Great Gatsby fairly easy to understand, I loved the characters and Fitzgerald's style of writing... two thumbs up for The Great Gatsby!!

TGG
The matter of the fact is that The Great Gatsby is one of the most revered books in American literature. Why I don't quite understand. While near the end with the death of Myrtle, and the sudden change in attitude of Jordan the book does take an interesting twist. Why I must say I did enjoy the book, it wasn't one that I would care to read again. It was very confusing at times. After finishing the book I had to go back to the beginning and reread it. And sure enough it made a lot more sense once I reread it. So I recommend to anyone who reads it to go back over the text once you finish it will help you so much with your comprehension of the story and make you enjoy it that much more.

i thought the story was quite boring, Fitzgerald uses great language, of course, but the story was missing something. All these questions go unanswered. How did Gatsby really make his money? Who helped him?

I loved this book, I understand why fitzegarld called gatsby "the great" , he symbolizes the american dream and its tragic failure in the roaring twenties, he's the less corrupted in this book, he loves daisy from the start and he's doesn't change trough all the book, he stay this mysterious character .
I think that all the readers have loved him, there was something pure about him, though he was a bootlegger. A kind of kindness? he's a pathetic character.
when tom wins daisy back, gatsby hasen't any reason to live any more, that's why he died in the 8th chapter.
