1851 - Family cat loses Child vs. Cat. Child is returned to parents. Cats everywhere are outraged. A groundswell of feline resistance begins to form, seeking equal protection under the law for cats. Family cat leaves law practice to run for public office in the hopes of sponsoring Feline Rights legislation.
1852 - Family cat is elected Sherriff of Lyons.
1853 January 6 - American President-Elect Franklin Pierce, wife Jane, and son Ben are involved in a train wreck near Andover, Massachusetts. Franklin and Jane survive but eleven-year-old Ben is killed. (Thought I'd put this fact up, since most Americans if asked who Franklin Pierce was would answer "Who?")

The Lincoln-Douglas Debates of 1858
The Lincoln-Douglas debates were a series of formal political debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas in a campaign for one of Illinois' two United States Senate seats. Although Lincoln lost the election, these debates launched him into national prominence which eventually led to his election as President of the United States.
(Sorry if I always sound like a History Book. But "Those that cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it.")
1859 - September 28 - Henry I of England defeats his older brother Robert Curthose, duke of Normandy, at the Battle of Tinchebrai, and imprisons him in Devizes castle; Edgar Atheling and William Clito are also taken prisoner.
We will soon have to change to ab urbe condita or other calendars that are not based on the year that Christ supposedly was born on (but most probably didn't)
Some people we know, for example, sometimes use a calendar that states the present year to be 10219, since it is believed that about so many years ago, ice melted in Danish straits enough that the water could break through, the Baltic Ice lake turned into Yoldia sea, which resulted in a rapid change of the sea level in very short time. It is possible that human eyes saw that process.
1860 - November 11, 1860, Abraham Lincoln is elected President of the United States with 180 out of 303 electoral votes and 40% of the popular vote.
