Hello everyone. History buff here from California who loves classic literature.
Hello all
I have just came across and registered to this forum. I assume I am older than most in here.
I am Greek and live in Piraeus, Greece - something I have tried to change, but with no results so far. In life, I consider myself to be a late bloomer. Professionally, I was a wanderer, not knowing what I wanted to do. A fact that led me to gain experience in a variety of fields. Later, this proved to be a valuable asset in life and professional experience. In mature age I studied Psychology and specialized/ an MSc in Applied Forensic Psychology. Today I work as a drug counsellor/therapist with drug addicted offenders as well as prisoners.
During the last years I developed a wider interest in p[hilosophical issues and a special interest in astrology.

Hoping to fill that void here.

Hey, I'm Zac. I began my pursuit of writing just last year so there is a lot I am still new to. I feel that I have made great progress in just one year, but I desire to refine my writing whether it is for essays, reports, or just for pleasure.

Welll, hello(:
I've never really been in a forum before! But I wanted a place where I could rebound story ideas and whatnot and this seems like such a welcoming place to do so! Can't wait to get better associated with you all!
Good evening. (From my side of the world.)
Call me Kate.
I'm new here so I'll make a brief introduction. I'm 19, taking up English. I'm a literature lover especially of classics. I also fancy books of suspense, mystery and the likes. I would love to have an intellectual exchange from everyone in this site. I really welcome diversity in ideas. Also, I'm into literary criticisms and theories so if anyone wants to share thoughts about the matter, I'd gladly appreciate it.
Enjoy reading!
AHOY! It is I, the anti-ego! The timid bearer of wisdom peering in from beyond the socio-gate!
Foreign to any sort of realm such as online forums, I was hoping to meet some like-minded people for the sake of my faith in humanity! I mostly indulge in modernist works for I don't feel the human race has progressed; mentally, ethically, morally, at all.
All I can say for myself is that nothing pleases me more than roaming the country roads of upstate NY in an auto or in my shoes. I fish, I read quite a lot (from Homer to Delillo I say!)
I am a student and certainly will never cease to be so. I am finding it more and more difficult to break the barriers that exist between myself and those who need help in this country. Not in an economic sense, but in an enlightened sense. I believe we are on the brink of cultural revolution, up to the young minds of this technological age to reinstate the importance of the power and potential education holds to the development of the ingenious American citizen.
I hope some folks on here feel the same way.
Remember, we're responsible! Don't feed the beast!
Hello EricW, I think you will enjoy your stay here.I have never been to New York . But have written about it could you tell me how near the point I am Eric thanks buddy.

Hey everybody!
I am an avid reader and hope to have good fun here!
Hi everybody. Thankyou for welcoming me. I'm a 34 year old woman from the UK and love reading. My favourite novels are The Collector by John Fowles, The Patchwork Planet by Anne Tyler, Winnesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson and various crime novels by english authors Mark Billingham and Peter James.
Here's my query that I really hope someone can help me solve. I read a book 5 years ago and cannot remember the title or any character names and vague parts of the plot but enjoyed it and hope to relocate it. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
It was set in London and written in the 60s or 70s. A single man in his 50s or 60s is renting an upstairs lodgings from an old lady. He is strange but non threatening but then a young woman rents one of the downstairs rooms. I think she may be a student. The older man uses every excuse to lure her upstairs, playing records, giving her food but she begins to be unnerved by him. He goes into her room when she is out and becomes enraged when he finds out she has a boyfriend as he thought she was a 'nice girl' I thinkl he kills her in the end. Any ideas???
Thankyou. Charlotte.
Welcome, Charlotte! :)
I am afraid I personally can't be of any help to you regarding this matter but judging by the story it does sound very interesting! I hope somebody else would be able to help you!
The Collector is also one of my most favourites! :) Have you tried The Magus as well?
Hello everybody, I'm Faces. I shoot around the net popping in to various fourums, and I joined this particular one because I aspire to become a writer once I leave school, and I love books... LOVE them. I hope to get along with everyone here. :)
Hello everyone. Despite my avatar, I am not very old at all . I am actually a 19 year old university student majoring in English and History. I like reading from pretty much any area of literature but my favourite type is probably the literature of the 19th century, particularly the works of Scott, Stevenson, and Dumas. I hope to have many interesting discussions with all you fellow literature lovers :smile5:.
Hello there,
I am a 24 year old college grad who is interested in literature but I don't have much knowledge. It's hard for me to concentrate because I suffer from chronic pain, but the prospects of creating a worth while work is somewhat a diversion.
Hello everyone. My name is Michelle and i'm from the Dominican Republic. I'm 18 years old and in the fall will be entering university. I'm studying law. i originally wanted to become an English major, but when looking at job options with and english degree I wasn't so excited with what i found. So i'm staying in the Dominican Republic and studying law, but I can't stay away from books and discussing them, so I decided to join you guys :p
My favorite book of all times is Frankenstein. My friends don't understand why I love the book so much, but hopefully you guys will. :p
Hello everyone!
My name is Cathy and I am from California. I am a single woman in my late 40’s who has recently discovered the joy of writing, thanks to a friend who has encouraged and mentored me for the last several months.
This same friend recommended this site, and I must say, I am quite excited after seeing the feast of writing that is here! There is such variety and a wealth of technical knowledge and discussions and constructive criticism. These are the very things I am seeking in order to accomplish my goal of improving my writing skills.
I am a novice writer of mainly poetry, and have recently decided to venture into short stories as well. Beyond that, I set no limits so I am open to exploring many forms of writing.
I have no formal training, and only my deep desire to connect with other people, through the observation and expression of my thoughts, emotions, and life experiences as depicted by words, to try to capture that human element we all resonate with.
I chose poetry as my first exploration because it is an art form so rich, succinct and acute, in its expression of those human experiences that tie us together - the efficiency of words so exacting right down to the very syllable. On the surface they may seem inadequate when singled out, but when carefully crafted together, as with the artist’s brush, each stroke - each word - can penetrate the armor of the soul. It is those moments of shared human intimacy and vulnerability of the human spirit that I find so nourishing for my own soul.
I look forward to making new friends here, to learn how to improve my skills, and to learn about different forms of writing. I am glad to be here and am eager to get started!
Hello, everybody! My name is Aurel D, I am from Bucharest, Romania I like both to read and write! I am passionate especially by history and in this respect, in 2010, I finished a detailed e-book about the real life of Vlad Dracula the Impaler. I also wrote more articles on Internet about this subject, and others.
I think I'm probably at the far end of the spectrum of the community here as I've just retired from teaching literature. I'm having withdrawal so look forward to reading some fresh ideas!
Hi everyone. I've often browsed this site yet never signed up. Today is different. I hope to engage in interesting interaction with other humans.
hello, everyone.I am an English major.Recently I am thinking of my future seriously.Virtually,I know action is the first thing to do .I am eager to improve myself. So,I found the forum when I was looking for Sophie's World .I determined to join it instantly. How wonderful it is .:hurray:
I'm pretty new at this. I have always loved reading and now, in my retirement years, I have decided to try writing. Never had time while I was working. It's harder than I thought! But I'm having fun and that's what counts, right?.
I'm delighted to find this forum. Not exactly new to literature, I have recently been soaking up everyting Vonnegut I can get my hands on. Now I'm reading Dickens' Our Mutual Friend And what's best about reading the classics at this time in my life-I'm 73- is that it's my idea and I am enjoying every word.
I came on this site looking for something written about Twemlow in Our Mutual Friend
Looking forward to browsing the forums.
Hi. I'm new, and I'm here to get some help from people with more knowledge than me!
Now how to start my own thread....
Hello to every one
I'm Rachael. I found this forum today in my Women in Literature class whenI was looking for a poem. : )
....there was a storyteller, Tusitala, with a penchant for the old tales including those that involved woods and witches...
I'm also a common reader with an interest in modernism amongst other things.
I've only just found this thread. So I guess I should say: hello!
Ummmm.... I am not exactly new I just came in last week but I written a lots.
I love writing stories and mangas, which I take seriously, not just as a side thing, but an important task. Favorite book not mentioned.
Welcome all! :)
I just found this delightful little forum. Hello everyone. :)
Just a quickie to say hi to everyone. I'm new to the site but looking forward to engaging with people on different strands.
I'm a struggling writer who is enjoying the challenge of getting my work out to a wider audience.
Currently have just published on Kindle and am seeing where that takes me.
As for the rest of it, I'm currently living and working in the UK, but have a dream that revolves around writing and self-sufficiency in rural France.
That's the plan, anyway.

Needed an alternative to the dreaded Facebook since I deleted it. Can't stand all the meaningless of that site and needed a place where I could talk about my actual interests and not be bombarded with boring status updates constantly. Hopefully make new friends too=)
I am presently reading for the 2nd time A Handmaiden's Tale by M. Atwood. I love several other books by her as well. My favorite author is Brian Evenson, but a lot of people don't seem to know who he is. I also adore Flannery O'Connor!
Anyway, have a good weekend!
