fave band + song?
Yikes, tough one! I cannot possibly narrow down my favorite band, being a fan of multiple genres, let alone a favorite song, but a few favorites (non-classical): Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, REM, Travis, Coldplay, Björk, Fiona Apple, Mono (ironic, eh?), and, for very special reasons, the whole album of Hold On Love by Azure Ray.;)
To the person below me: hypothetically, of course, if you chose to become any other plant or animal, what would you choose, and why?
Female grizzly bear, then I would be forced by the norms of my species to gain an insane amount of weight, be expected to kill to protect my young, scare the bejeebies out of anyone who came near me, and running with fat rippling around my body would be beautiful.
Which mythological god/goddess would you, could you, be, if you could?
Though I know I this response requires becoming another gender, I would choose Pallas Athena (Roman: Minerva), the goddess of wisdom, warfare, and "useful" arts, owning the city of Athens, Greece, having the equal wisdom, if not more, of Zeus, residing on Mount Olympus, and being admired by nearly all.
Good question, lhaeber; I love Greek, Roman, and Norse mythology!
To the person below me: same question.
I would most definately be Freya.
Freya
In Norse mythology, Freya is a goddess of love and fertility, and the most beautiful and propitious of the goddesses. She is the patron goddess of crops and birth, the symbol of sensuality and was called upon in matters of love. She loves music, spring and flowers, and is particularly fond of the elves (fairies). Freya is one of the foremost goddesses of the Vanir.
She is the daughter of the god Njord, and the sister of Freyr. Later she married the mysterious god Od (probably another form of Odin), who disappeared. When she mourned for her lost husband, her tears changed into gold.
To the one under me; what is the first thing that you wouldn't tell someone about yourself when first meeting them, and why?
Good question. I know immediately and exactly what I would not say, it having to do something with two opposite polar bears.
To the person below me: if you immediately knew of a person's weaknesses and private issues, of whom you just met, would you feel priveleged or offended?
I would feel emotionally closer to them. Not offended at all.
So you subscribe to any religion?
Not any one specifically. I enjoy the thought that every religion contains a component of truth, and that truth, itself, stretches beyond human understanding, beliefs, intuitions, and reason. If I claimed a religion: perhaps universal skepticism.
To the person below me: same question.
I'm a christian. There's no denominational name for the congregation that I attend. You could say that our motto is "we speak where the Bible speaks, and we're silent where the Bible is silent".
A variation: Who was your best instructor?
*By the way mono, I can sympathize. I went through a terrible nursing program.*
It was a toss up between Mr. Rogers and Mr. Dressup...
To the person below me,
you believe in reincarnation, so you'll come back as what?
I believe in reincarnation and I think I will always be human, I think I'll be a girl again, but who knows?
same question
Hmm, being a slight skeptic regarding just about everything, I do believe in a form of reincarnation, something resembling the Pythagorean idea of the transmigration of souls, though I also *question* the Buddhist belief that, once a being reaches enlightment, s/he becomes devoid of reincarnation.
Firstly, I do believe in the mind-body dichotomy, and figure that they persist as nearly opposites, one being material, the other immaterial, and one being finite, the other . . . hmm . . . possibly infinite, which further directs me toward William James' theory of the connection of souls. I would like to think that all souls connect themselves with each other, and contribute to a unity of life, cycling in a life-death refrain, and do not necessarily need proof; but I suppose some things require more faith and intuition than logic and reasoning.
Whew! Please, pardon my preaching.
To the person below me: do you believe in a Heaven and Hell?
No. Because;"every religion promises certain benefits to its adherents, and those benefits require by way of contrast some costs incurred by those who do not receive those benefits".
Mashed or baked potatoe?
Mashed, with garlic and butter. (Probably too much salt too)
What does your right hand smell like?
My right hand smells faintly of Lush brand organic soap, and sweetly of the scent of an orchid owned by Psyche. ;)
