Baby Cockatoo
Baby cockatoo was in tears!

Night Sky
When our forefathers
gazed at the sky
before Enlightenment
they were just delighted
with the profusion of stars.
The sky today is more scientific
than romantic.
Who still moons under the moon?
Powerfull telescopes
show a sky behind the sky:
super moons, unidentified fireballs
black holes and milky ways
eclipse the modest performances
of ancient times .
But mankind
will never disclose
all its mysteries.

predators and prey hunkering down watch
a lighthouse bathed in its afterglow as
it booms out a warning with its foghorn.
kindred moonseed and nightshade become
fog harps catching droplets of moisture
which drip-drip into the thirsty sandy soil.
shore birds who would otherwise soar
circle short distances or land wandering
noisily by the shore restricted by the
foggy low ceiling until the fog lifts again.

Charming poem, unexpected theme. Enjoyed the crates with artwork too. My bookshelf in my first apartment was made of crates without artwork. The problem with pinewood though is that it attracts insects that eat wood.

Have you ever been curious
about the phenomena of tears?
Some people weep easily,
others remain dry eyed
even at the most
tearing events.
There are those
that are moved to tears
at the sweet sound
of a mandolin,
at a intense movie scene
or the antics of a child or
a small animal,
yet remain frozen eyed
at a funeral.
The secret working
of tears
is a mystery
to this hour.

Perhaps it's weird in these Latter-days -
entertainment platforms for gaming is not
my forte; chess is more my idea of timeless
warfare with a side of "Risk" or "Stratego"
or dimpleboarded marble checkers, not the
American checkers - not that I get to play
much of anything any more he softly sighed
Scrabble or Yahtzee are fond memories
Dabbling with backgammon without really
understanding its nuances was a short lived
diversion - it's classic board games for me
Where the entertainment platforms shine
is the endless streaming possibilities...
why, for less than $1000.00 USD per month
one can access the entirety of archived
drivel available for mind-numbing binge
watching - and I've done it too, to a much
lesser extent: another opioid for the masses
Perhaps government has got it all wrong with
caring for our homeless: spending billions
of dollars on planning commissions and feas-
ibility studies with an endgame strategy of
getting absolutely nothing constructively done
other than lining the pockets of the privileged
... such are the games we play

Winter Zero Grade
Winter that year was adamant.
Snow kept falling directly and
continuously
on rooftops and roadsides.
The white landscape made anyone blink
that ventured on the streets.
Yet the taverns where full.
The guests drank to keep warm,
at least they thought this a good excuse,
and went swaggering home.
