^ He got cut from the Vegas rounds.
DO you know who's a brilliant comedian? Michael Mcintyre!
^ oh ok, so they do space them out. Thought it was a bit too close, the other one just ended recently.
I think it's too weird for them to have a dancer that raps or recites poetry while dancing. They're into choreography and technical dancing. That's an act for America's Got Talent. Do you watch it? It's like a variety show, a few good acts but a lot of it is tortuous to watch
^ I watched AGT last season, and I was rooting for Nuttin' But Stringz, but they didn't win. I caught a few minutes of this season's AGT, and I was not impressed.
I think that they cut Ryan because he is too old (by their standards). Last season, they went on and on about Melissa being 29 (I thought that she looked older than 29, but whatever).
I just watched the Top 20 performance episode of SYTYCD:CA, and there were no couples who stood out as amazing. The two couples that performed hip hop will probably fall to the bottom 3 tomorrow because judging from last season, Canadian voters do not like hip hop.
Is it starting over there now? you're right, they don't have much respect for hip hop despite they rave about the hip hop choreos. I think to them hip hop dancers are more limited and nichy, but when you watch them do other dances, they're just as good
^ Every couple that danced hip hop fell to the bottom 3 last season, with the exception of one or two. I think that the Canadian judges respect hip hop more, because many hip hop dancers/breakers/poppers were sent straight through to Toronto week (Vegas week in the US version) without having to do choreography. In the American version, every person who does hip hop in their audition has to do choreography. It's the Canadian voters that don't seem to like hip hop.
^ interesting observation. The judges here are the ones not going for hip hop, I think.
^ Yeah, the judges always say to the hip hop dancers, "We want to see if you can do other styles." It's as if they believe that only contemporary dancers can do other styles. But many of the contemporary dancers that they had on the show can't do anything outside their wheelhouse. For example, S5 Caitlin's hip hop was awful, and S5 Melissa's cha cha was dreadful.
Finally the Canadian TV audience appreciates hip hop. I was happy that both couples that danced hip hop escaped the bottom 3. The judges, however, are a different story. Why keep the contemporary dancer who was bad in the samba over the hip hop dancer who was passable in the capoeira?
good, that levels the playing field. May the best win :)
Cat Deeley needs to replace the host of SYTYCD:CA. Leah Miller, the current host, is awful. She messed up her lines at least three times.
Haunted, on September 2, there will be a special episode of SYTYCD that features the Top 15 routines of the past five seasons. Which routines were your favourite? I'll be shocked if "Sweet Dreams" and/or "Knock on Wood" do not make the list.
OMG! Thanks, I wouldn't have known! Sweet Dreams got to be my favorite! Love Knock on Wood! There's so many many, but only 15? There must be like 50 that I'd love to see again! Which are your favorite?
^ I can probably come up with more than 15, but here goes, in no particular order:
"No Air" - Katee/Joshua hip hop
"Forever" - Comfort/Twitch hip hop
"Party People" - Comfort/Mark hip hop
"Sexy Love" - Allison/Ivan hip hop
"Make it Work" - Sabra/Dominic hip hop
"Wishing on a Star" - Courtney/Gev rumba
"Ruby Blue" - Janette/Brandon jazz
"Hometown Glory" - Katee/Joshua contemporary
"The Chairman's Waltz" - Jaimie/Hok jazz
"Sweet Dreams" - Sabra/Neil jazz
"Knock on Wood" - Sara/Neil disco
"The Rockefeller Skank" - Sara/Pasha West Coast Swing
"Black Mambo" - Heidi/Benji mambo
"Dancing" - Lacey/Kameron contemporary
"Silence" - Jessica/Will contemporary
"Alone" - Jessica/Will lyrical jazz
"Gravity" - Kayla/Kupono contemporary
"The Garden" - Courtney/Mark jazz
"Eyes on Fire" - Kayla/Kupono contemporary
"You and Me" - Anya/Danny Viennese waltz
"Hip Hip, Chin Chin" - Lacey/Danny samba
"Libertango" - Janette/Brandon Argentine Tango
"Falling Slowly" - Karla/Jonathan contemporary
Those are just off the top of my head. I am too obsessed with this show :)
yea, I can tell :D
Why - Allison and Ivan
and what's the one with Heidi and Travis, the park bench
I can't believe they haven't deleted this one yet

^ I wonder if they'll include the group dances. Probably not, because it's only 15 routines :(
I really hope that the routines are "Fan Favourites" and not "Nigel's/Judges' Favourites."
I think most of them are both judges and fans favorites... but tough call when it comes to the top 2. I still would love to see Brandon win....
^ I would love for "Ruby Blue" to be #1, but given Mia's dislike of Brandon, I doubt it.
Mia dislikes Brandon, why?!
^ During the Vegas episodes, Mia said to Brandon (paraphrased): "I've been hearing all year how brilliant you are, but I don't see it," and "You annoy the s--- out of me." Lil' C joined in, saying to Brandon: "You don't impress me." Also, right before Brandon found out he was in the Top 20, Mia said to him (paraphrased): "I just can't take who you are."
oh that's mean. I wouldn't say that to even my least favorite dancer!
^ Her comments were even more ironic because she flat out said that she liked male dancers because of the strength that they bring. But then she criticizes Brandon, a strong male dancer. Luckily, Nigel and Mary came to his defense.
She recanted her statements after Brandon and Janette performed their cha cha. She probably saw that Brandon could win the whole competition, and she didn't want to look stupid in front of America.
She's tough. Who else did she take under her wings besides Travis? Come to think of it Travis isn't a strong male dancer, not strong like physically. He has beautiful lines.
^ Mia loves the dancers that she can mould to fit her vision. Travis was young, and so she probably thought that she could 'create' something out of him. She also adores the dancers who are technically proficient in contemporary; she loved Danny in S3, and she loved Will in S4. She also seemed to love Alex Wong during the Vegas rounds; he is a professional ballet dancer. But that doesn't explain why she hated Brandon. I did some searching around, and found out that Mia thought that Brandon was lazy.
Brandon may have a laid back look but his big movements in his solos are just amazing.
^ I agree. Brandon has technique, strength, flexibility, and a good personality. I have no idea why Mia would think that Brandon was lazy because many of the choreographers, including Louis Van Amstel, loved Brandon, and said that he had a great work ethic.
let's hope we'll get to see him perform. It's only an hour long :(
I'm out for the count. Let me say goodnight :)
anyone around?
I am for the next 2 minutes
Haunted, were you able to catch the latest episode of America's Best Dance Crew?
no, don't have cable :( Was it good?
Just got home from work at the library... have I missed anything?
Shane was tough on them?
are you saying they have a new Bollywood fusion hip hop now?
^ Shane was p.o.'d last week because he thought that the crews had weak choreography, boring routines, brought no energy, and needed to stop recycling moves.
Every week, there are different challenges that each crew must complete. This week was the Bollywood challenge.
do the crews choreo their own dances?
I love the Bollywood number on SYTYCD, the costumes were amazing!
^ Yes, the crews choreograph their own dances. For example, in the Bollywood challenge, the crews were told: "You must incorporate bharata natyam / kathak / bhangra / etc. into your routine." A Bollywood choreographer (the one from SYTYCD) came to show them the moves, and then it was up to the crews to create a routine that incorporated their style with the assigned challenge.
