CCCCI I don't really care... It wasn't too bad, there was a contest last summer where it was horrid. (my opinion, though I was not involved) Anyway, I am either an overacheiver, or everyone is an underacheiver. I think it's the latter. I would do so bad if 4H was like it was 40 years ago.

I just realized that I didn't answer you on the Spanish lit questions - I mainly used works by Cervantes, Lope de Vega, and Rojas, although I did some mental acrobatics and used So Juan Inez de la Cruz as a direct descendant of the Golden Age in the New World. :lol: My ultimate favorite, however, was the piqaresque novel Lazarillo de Tormes by an unknown author

For you, for America, 4-H. . . that was the little jingle they used to advertise the program when I was in it. Piglet, I was in 4-H in North Idaho. I used to have to display my projects at the Kootenai County Fair. The last year I did so, my horse decided to make a jailbreak and walked down the barn aisle, frisking people for treats until I returned from the rest room. :lol:
416--yes ma'am, 4-H for about 5 years. I grew up on a farm, so I was involved with the animals, mostly.

Awesome. I really don't know what the program's like in your states, or was like, but 4-H is 4-H. This is my 8th year in 4-H, because I started in 1st grade, with the "Cloverbud" program, which in my county is K-2 grade.

427 - I know, I know. I was deprived. I think they did it because of snow days, although we rarely saw any of those when I was growing up. We've had very mild winters out here lately
428 same here, in the sense that there hasn't been much snow. Bitter cold on the prairie though. It's just a matter of time until the blizzards come, and those unprepared will be in a dilemma.

I remember my grandmother's stories of the blizzards. All the family members had farms up around Fosston, and they would have a clothesline run from the back entry to the barn door so they wouldn't get lost when feeding the animals and milking.
430 there's a lot of new people out here in the country who didn't grow up in the country and wouldn't know what to do
431 - I think the common deterioration in survival skills today is rather sad. Of course, knowing my luck I would wander out into the woods here and run into a grizzly bear - so much for skills! :lol:

yes, I agree, but some people just don't know to stock up on things either. I try, to be a good outdoorswoman, but I'm still learning. I love the mountains, the woods, the lakes.

I do too. I grew up among lakes, mountains and trees, and I know how unpredictable nature can be, so it seems logical to me to do things like keep a pantry full of dry goods, take my pocket knife with me when I go out, things like that. In fact, the house I grew up in had an old woodburning Monarch cookstove with warming ovens - we used it when the power went out. that used to be a special treat. Mom would fire it up, then make sourdough pancakes for us.
