What poem made the greatest impression on you, and why?
...................
Yikes, tough question, Isagel, we being the two poetry geeks of the site! I could probably narrow it down to a few: Endymion by John Keats due its devotion to mythology and aesthetic quality to romanticism, Because I Could Not Stop for Death by Emily Dickinson for its in-depth thought, The Guest House and All Our Lives by Rumi also for its in-depth quality of thought and metaphor, Mending Wall by Robert Frost just because, The Triumph of Life by Percy Bysshe Shelley also for its devotion to classic literature, mythology, and to the fact that it never went finished, The World Soul by Ralph Waldo Emerson for its philosophy, Piano, Sigh No More, and After the Opera by D.H. Lawrence because, well, he just writes touching work, many, many works by the Brownings, and, of course, The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri.
Whew!
To the person below me: I repeat Isagel's question - what poem has had the greatest impression on you?
none..
what song has the greatest impact on you?
Argh, another tough question! Most songs that have had a great impact on me seem ones without lyrics, such as classical music. A few that come to mind, mixed with other genres:
Overture to Tannhauser by Richard Wagner,
Eugene Onegin by Pyotr Tchaikovsky (inspired by Pushkin),
All Is Full Of Love by Björk,
First Symphony by Frédéric Chopin,
Aria di Capo by Johann Sebastian Bach,
Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber,
Electrolite by REM,
Why Does It Always Rain On Me by Travis,
Trouble by Coldplay,
Nice Dream by Radiohead.
To the person below me: I liked sub's question - what song has the greatest impact on you?
You're absolutely kidding! Well, I know it's not so surprising that anybody else than myself should have it on their mind, but....:D Actually, it's not really on my mind anymore, I graduated from it last Wednesday so I'm taking a little break from it, practising other stuff instead.Quote:
