Sorry you didn't understand me Amuse - I didn't realise I was being obscure. I simply meant President Bush's voice would send the kids plus everyone else to sleep. Haven't read any other threads concerning religion versus politics..but not that interested anyway, it was just a thought that occured to me. The posts on the subject must have been before I joined.
With the current political climate being as volatile as it is, mentioning Bush in any context is an invitation to passionate debate, and I agree fully that recent politics have nothing to do with literature or personal insight, and should therefore be kept out of the forum.
Religious texts, on the other hand, are a major part of the literary history of all cultures. Therefore, the discussion of religion can be very interesting and valuable --providing, of course, that the debate adheres to the subject of a specific religious text or passage, and doesn't veer off into moral crusades or feelings/intent of personal offense. And that it stays in the Religious Texts forum, so as not to provoke those who don't wish to take part.
I think Admin and the members here together have done remarkably well at maintaining an atmosphere of tolerance and respect. Certainly far beyond the petty bickerings of all other boards I've encountered.

I wasn't commenting on Bush's politics of which I know nothing..nor anything of the current political climate in America...merely on Mr Bush's boring voice and long speeches.
I think that there is very little difference between the merits or otherwise of discussing politics or religion and both are valuable in the context of history...and in fact are inseparable expecially in Britain where the church and state have been linked since time immemorial. It would be impossible to discuss the religious differences between protestand and catholic fraternities and the contention it brings in Northern Ireland without reference to politics and it's political history. These are extremely complex and it would be impossible to discuss any history of Northern Ireland without reference to both. But anyway...this thread looked like fun and was fun but this is getting serious...

i think one must be careful there too, miranda. discussions of cats tend to get almost as heated as ones of politics...although, it shouldnt be too bad with kik missing. i miss kik. :bawling:

Humidity is pissy, I went to Florida once in August and every day I felt like taking about 3 or 4 showers it was so muggy and then the thunderstorms would start and water would be everywhere.

Humidity, muggy air wouldn't do much harm. But not sure about wild animals. I saw on TV : lately they began to walk in Florida's streets and private yards.

Talk of humidity, I hate summer for that reason... It's unbearable around here. I wonder if Florida is worse.
And we miss things just because we do. It's a rule of life. What we can't have is what we want, what we hate and try to lose is what we want but we don't want. I'm not making sense but oh, my brain is a mess-especially about this stuff *shuts up* :banana:
Maybe we miss the things we hate because they have become so familiar to us? I am beginning to hate where I live and want to be some place else. But I reckon I would still miss here cos I've been here so long...even though I want to see the back of it now. I think em is right about that dancing bananna! If you want to escape humidity then come to sunny summer in Britain - where the temperature is now 9c (50F) and is rainy. To be fair though..it is eleven o'clock at night. But it wasnt much warmer in the daytime either. Wanna swap?
the most humid place i've ever been (that I remember... I don't remember my trip to florida... was 2 years old)... was Washington D.C. ... that place is hot+ humid...except for in the winter... spring... and em... fall.
Whee! Backers. Wicked tired. Never been so glad to return from such a short trip. No clue why. And...I'm about to drop, cause I've been sitting in a little honda *with my family* for 12 hours -- the seat behind the driver's, of course, cause it's the one with 10 inches of leg room. :rolleyes: I don't know whether to stretch and take a shower or sleep...hmm....SLEEP. I'll see you guys tomorrow, and catch up on the posts then too. (I'll try not to reply to too many. ;))

I've never been anywhere more humid than Florida. Last weekend I played my harp for an outdoor wedding about an hour after it rained. I was so glad it was a very short wedding. My fingers kept sticking to the strings! :eek: Good rule of thumb for Florida outdoor weddings, March is probably the best month!
I remember the ten days of summer that I spent in Paris. I drank bottle after bottle of water and rarely had to go to the bathroom. But it was still more barable than the humidity of Florida!

My hair did not turn out purple as planned, but brown with a reddish tinge to it. :confused: Except in the sun, when it's bright auburn/orange and I look freakishly Irish. I'll have to save up a fortune to get it all stripped (salon lady'll have a heart attack when she sees me walk in), before I can put anything else in.

Purple rules!!!(see half of my clothes) But I think it's hard to make it work on hair unless you de-colour your hair first and do it at the hairdresser's...This is why I've never done it despite having wanted purple strips for ages... I so much hate hairdressers... My hair has to stay natural (except when I want it more black and the thingy lasts 2 days :D))
Back in my day I had purple highlights in my hair and loved it. I have very dark hair and I'm pretty sure they had to lighten my hair first then dye. I remember it took forever.
In Junior High I was doggedly determined to put green streaks in my hair. I must have tried it on five seperate occasions before admitting defeat. It just turned out looking like I was a bottle-blonde who'd been soaking in a heavily chlorinated pool. :( Let's see...to this point it's been a few different shades of red, a couple different shades of purple, and black two or three times. So now the hair near my temples is bleached, and it's black underneath. :rolleyes: The things we do for no apparent reason.
Now that I know how to change from "registered User" to something else I can't think of anything witty to change it too.
