I don't think they were inflated in the free skate. I looked at the breakdown on the Olympics site. She shines in the components category, and I think she has the best footwork and transitions of the top 5 besides Yu-Na Kim. Even given her excellent performance in that category she only received 1 more point than Asada. Otherwise, she skated a more technically difficult routine than Asada (Rochette had the next most difficult after Kim), and probably made about the same amount of mistakes.
Her short program score could arguably be considered a little on the high side, maybe a 68 would have been more appropriate than 71. Either way, she would have gotten the bronze.
Nagasu was arguably underscored in her components category, but I think Joannie is a more graceful skater than her.
I think this is ridiculously dismissive of Joannie's capabilities. She did receive the silver in the world's last year, it's not like she isn't a top tier skater.
