I voted away from the Western European and US in the poll. I already have a solid comprehension of many dominant authors from these regions. I would really hope to explore some lesser known authors to increase my cultural diversity, literally. Hoping that some of these books will lead me to others, and some interesting discussion.
B> Ditto.
This is so interesting. So far, 3 people have voted and none of the countries has got 3 votes. :)
I picked twelve since that is the number of months. I could have picked more but I had to draw a limit.
Hah! Didn't think of it at the time of voting but, as it turns out, I picked 12 countries as well (purely coincidental).
I think I'll wait til the end to vote, I've learned my lesson.
And this time I'm gonna put it on my calender to remind me to vote!!
I went with Virgil's idea, and I voted for 12 countries as well. I am hoping next year will be an interesting year for reading, and it is sure to expand my horizons a bit:)
I picked nine: Russia, USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Greece, and Sweden.
Top 12 countries at the moment:
Russia 10
India 8
Greece 8
Germany 8
Ireland 7
USA 6
UK 6
Japan 6
Italy 5
France 5
China 5
Canada 5
Russia??? Russia?!???!!! :bawling:
I just noticed that Psychinaboat voted for every country. Every single one. I guess you couldn't make up you mind Psych. :p
Would India include Anglo-indians like Kipling and Orwell?
I voted for: Sweden, India, Egypt, Iran and South Africa.:)
True (I mean it is true that that is your opinion). Thanks for giving me some hope, Tal. You should post more often! ;)
I feel that Russia has been over done again and again... and again... and some more. What's more, despite the initial enthusiam, rarely people actually read/take part in the discussions. No, India would not include Anglo-Indians but UK would include them! ;)
Leading countries today:
Russia 15
Greece 13
India 13
Ireland 12
Germany 11
France 9
Italy 9
Japan 9
UK 9
USA 9
China 8
Egypt 8
Sweden 8
China, Egypt and Sweden will have to battle it out for the last two places as things stand at the moment.
Yes, do post! We miss the chattering of several crows at the same time. :p
Yeah, Scher, that's a trouble. We plan to take part in discussions but then something by chance happens (like the book being not available or even getting busy in something else or the authors selected not being whose works we would like to read) which prevents us from taking part in most of the discussions. But I promise if Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment gets selected, I would love to take part in the discussion. ;) But (oops can't help putting in a but) if I can manage getting into it and (yes, and as well) if my computer remained working and (oh there are so many of these) if I remained healthy by that time. Or let's sum it all upto if nothing out of ordinary happen at that time. :pQuote:

When do you close the poll?
 Ireland! China!
OK, I just voted for all the underdogs.
You forgot Newzealand and Croatia Papaya!:p
Hey, don't forget Croatia!
oh crud!! I missed the two biggest underdogs!!!
I voted for Croatia:)
and for Turkey, italy, finland, egypt, ireland.
Fourteen countries in double digits. Wow, two of those won't make it. Amazing how Russia continues to lead.
Ah yes but india and Ireland are catching up!:p
Oh dear I can't believe I forgot to vote until now! I've passed the thread up several days in a row planning on getting back to it....glad I noticed it tonight, because when the week comes I would completely forget to vote. So I am going to do that now. Looks like we have some interesting countries coming up.
Hehehe I felt convicted Scher when you said not everyone participates...guess it doesn't help much that I am optimistic!! ;) But hopefully if classes aren't too demanding you will see more of me!
Going once...
Results so far:
Russia 19
India 17
Germany 16
Greece 16
Ireland 16
France 14
Italy 14
Japan 14
China 12
South Africa 12

Either UK or Egypt will go through as they share the last spot.
We need some more votes for China!
Going twice...
Since still there is a tie, we will keep the poll open for another day. Please cast your vote!
Come people vote for UK :D
I'd say: Vote for Egypt! :) It could be interesting.
Egypt would be a really good choice - how often do we read Egyptian writers compared to UK writers?
