literature psychological impact on the human mind

books make an impact on the readers mind. they can transfer happy or sad feelings depending on the story
do you think a violent or suicidal ie negative driven books make somehow a psychological impact on the mind?
to raise awareness is part of literature greater effect so what is the role of the non so friendly amicable ideas books portray?
please discuss.

I read horror. They never made me feel suicidal/angry. They make me feel awesome.

they make you feel awesome. can you elaborate a bit because awesome is quite a big meaning.

Read tragedies for catharsis --- the purging of negative emotions such ad jealousy, hatred etc.
