BBC's Accused

Not sure if many people outside the UK and Ireland have had the pleasure to watch the TV series Accused, which is now airing its second season on BBC at the moment. It is written and produced by the wonderful Jimmy McGovern who did Cracker, The Street, The Lakes. In my opinion McGovern is the best dramatic writer in television today. It's a pity he doesn't do more stuff but the quality of whatever he does have a hand in really speaks for itself.

The show itself centers around a different person each episode who has been accused of some crime or other. You see the accused in the dock at the opening, then their story/how they ended up their is recounted. It really is a superlative show and I would highly recommend it anyone who has the certain luxury of not having watched any of it so far.
