how can you say the film is better? The novel takes an almost non-partisan approach towards the British, neither anti nor pro, and this completely altered in the film. The effect being an anti-British piece of propaganda to make the Americans hate colonialst Britain even more. This was not the intent of Cooper, as the Americans owe a lot to their foreign descendents yet refuse to acknowledge them unledd they are a 'fashionable' group such as the irish or jewish americans.

It's such an amazing book! The movie was better, though, so I suggest watching it.
