Stendhal The Red and The Black...though it seems likely we'll end up reading Hawthorne or something of the like ...:D
The Gospel According to Jesus Christ by José Saramago
:ack2: After my own smart-aleck, instigator heart!
I wanted to read it right after I read Sentimental Education last year --but thought it'd be better to wait. And now I've waited....plus I just read Count of Monte Cristo--so it'd be a nice balance.
I doubt it will win-my nominations never do--but I'll probably make it my FB "classic" book for my book club on there--so if it doesn't win, and you still want to read it--we could do our own reading :)
The Last September by Elizabeth Bowen.
Originally I was thinking of nominating something else, but seeing as it is for September I could not resist this book as I have been wanting to read it for a while.
Light in August- Faulkner
I would like to nominate JULY'S PEOPLE by Nadine Gordimer. Thanks!
Hmm... September...
