~Sky Aquarium~
On my back in the grass,
I look up and watch you sway.
There is a song in your head,
and you let a lyric or two
bubble from your lips
between smiles.
The blue/white white/blue backdrop
beyond your face
gives the impression
I am looking at a sky aquarium.
I want to tap on the glass,
but then you might swim to hide
beneath a ceramic bridge
set in gravel
by somebody else.

I loved the title of this poem and before I clicked on the thread I saw myself lying on my back, gazing upwards.
what a wonderful imagination!

Thanks, Delta. I did an edit in L-2, S-2. Changed "word" to "lyric." I think it sounds better with the other L's in that stanza.

The ending is meant to be sad, is it not? I'm a captive of poems as succinct as this, that tell us all we know in quick, sure brushstrokes and leave it to us to imagine or dream the rest.
