I had a hard time keeping them straight. I think I liked Rebecca Nurse, was she the old chick that delivered the babies?
Yes, Papaya. She was the old lady who was respected a lot by the community and who refused to confess as well at the end.
We liked Hale.
We mean, he was part of the system, but he was kind and thought of the possibilities of that the people could be innocent. He like always pointed some things out in favour of the victims (not that Hawthorne would have listened to him, but still) and he seemed like he would rather let a guilty man go unpunished than an innocent get punished.
And We liked also that in the beginning we thought that he was the bad guy who would put all those people to death. His change was wonderful.
I voted Elizabeth P. because she was very insightful and he refused to judge others, and was not blind to the causes of various situations; she knew what fueled Abigail, what lead John to Abigail, what haunted John afterwards, (and others I'd have to look for that I won't atm).
I voted John Proctor... don't really know why, something about him that's just... likeable. Aside of sleeping with Abigail... he's just a guy, right? ;) Nah, seriously, I think he wasn't that bad, didn't believe all the witchcraft accusations, and he seemed to be on the 'against the court'... though it it wasn't his wife accused I'm not too sure he'd be bothered, and I 'liked' him chosing not to give up in the end and well, dying... even though he did sign the thing first... and I'm babbling :p
I also liked Elizabeth Proctor, guess for the same reasons Anselmus mentioned... though there's this 'holier than thou' attitude someone mentioned once... ;)
I was unsure who to chose as my favorite character. Liked both Giles Corey and Hale a lot. Corey seemed like a man who did not want to give in and knew his around the system (hence the many legal cases he was involved). He had some amusing quality about him too though his end was not very amusing.
At the end I decided to vote for Hale because he seemed like someone who really wanted to get things right. He was a man of learning and although his beliefs directed him towards a certain direction, he refused to be blinded by them. He was open to consider other options as well. What's more, he did not mind admitting his mistake once he realised it and did not mind taking a stance for what he believed was right.
