August / Japan Reading Poll

I have a beautiful unabridged version of The Tale of Genji that's been waiting patiently on my bookshelf for two years. I don't think it's readable in one month, however.

Great idea as i did not read anything from Japanese literature, I wait for others suggestions as I do not know about this.

After reading the blurb on Amazon, I'll second this nomination. The descrpition of the first part of the book reminds me a bit of Musui's Story, by Katsu Kokichi, which could be another option.

Has anyone read Mishima? I have been told by multiple people that his work is excellent, however I have no clue where to start.
edit: after doing a little googling it seems that his tetralogy The Sea of Fertility is his highest regarded work, and therefore the most easily obtainable in translation. So, I guess I nominate the first one, Spring Snow - Yukio Mishima

I've already read Kafka on the Shore, not my favourite of Murakami's books though it is very good.
JBI: I've read The Sailor who Fell from Grace with the Sea by Mishima and it was very good. If you like the style of Japanese fiction then I'd have thought you'd like Mishima.
I'd like to nominate The Woman in the Dunes by Kobo Abe which is sitting on my shelf waiting to be read :D
