I really like to discuss technique, rythm, imagery and to get honest critique.
( Well, of course praise is nice as well) I want to be a better writer. I tend to give the kind of feedback that I like to get. But I just realised that perhaps this is not what evryone wants when posting here. So I figured that I should ask. Do you want critique, opinions, feedback or just to be read ?

i wrote many poetries as well, but i dont know until now i dont have the guts to post it in the forum..since i figure im not talented enough ...

What you mentioned is more or less what i want as well
I'm just thinking that if people want objective critique of their poetry, it would be better if they made it clear in their post when they put it on the forum, rather than it be taken for granted that this is the desire of the person posting the poem. The reason I say this is because, like Subterranean, many people are shy of posting their poems..and there are some really good ones and if they knew it was likely to be pulled apart and criticised, it would prevent them from posting them..and some really good poems would never be shared or read..just left stuck in a book or bits of paper or on a computer, wasted. I am just thinking that some people could get hurt if their poems were criticized too heavily..and I hate to see people get hurt..but on the other hand, if its what people want they could just put a note on the bottom of their poem to say so. I always think its great to encourage people...cos they just get better..but discouragement is a dead loss..and is negative and destructive.
Miranda- you are right, perhaps it is a good idea to tell what kind of feedback you want after the poem. Some poem are more like ones babies- you just want to show them , but not have them touched by anyone else.
Most of the time I really like comments about grammar, language and spelling. Since IŽm not a native english speaker I do not really know if the poem works or if it sounds strange. So I like both the critique about the craft of writing, but I also like personal views, opinions and associations. It so very pleasing and stimulating to know if youŽve touched someone with your words.

The thing is cultural products, like movies, poetries, songs, religions,lifestyle, fashion, etc are all subjective in judgements, I mean anyone can said everything and what he/she wants and can't be blame for saying such things..well of course one or two or more caould have similiar opinons thus create objective view..true what Miranda said some mightt can't take critizism (perhaps me included in this cateogory), but maybe it's because the subjectivity reason...well perhaps...
After reading som of the discussions here I thought that perhaps we could take up this discussion again. What kind of feedback do we want, and what kind do we want to give?
Lately I have not written so much feedback, it takes me time to create a well thought opinion on the poems, but also to try and understand what people want. I hurt some people without meaning to, and I would very much like to avoid doing that again.
I am not as easily hurt as I once was, but I remember the feeling.
So come on! Tell me and IŽll get to work. You want critique? I might have it. You want praise? I might have some.

i think that when writers post their work here they ought to be prepared for the comments of others. a poem or story cant just be posted and not be commented upon. personally, i prefer negative feedback because i get to improve on my next pieces, but of course who doesnt like a bit of praise? and bsides, everyone is free to bring out their own opinions, constructive or not. those who don't like negative feedback should indicate in their posts. if nothing is indicated, well.. they should be prepared for all the feedback coming their way. but, a mixture of comments might be good.
