Responsibilities

So, I have finally taken the next main step in my life (also committed myself to 25 years of debt in the process) and bought a house. I get the keys at the end of November and move over to the shores of Lake Huron (10min walk from the lake). The job will be changing again also (lined up a position at the Nuclear Plant nearby) & I will hopefully have time to myself to do things.

The thing is though that I no longer will be able to make rash decisions about what I want to do (which is probably a good thing:p ). I have lived without any real responsibilities or ties to anywhere in particular for my life up till now, things are certainly going to be different for me now.

Anyway, enough nonsense about my boring existence, I was wondering what event led the rest of you to realise your responsilities? (yes I know my wording is very poor, but I hope it is understandable)

Childbirth.

Congratulations Kilt. That is great. I'm glad to see you're doing well. What led me to a path of responsibility was marriage, or at least the commitment to marriage. If I remember correctly I was 27 when I proposed. We got married when I was 29. We bought a house very shortly thereafter. Yes a house is a big responsibility. But not as much as a wife. :lol:

I started realising responsibilities when i started up my own office 1,5 year ago. It is difficult when you have to do everything by yourself and learn everything you don't know alone, without an elder to instruct you (this translates to lots of extra work and studying). Moreover when you are your own boss you don't have anyone from whom to ask a raise to your salaries or let you go on vacation and you end up working many hours :(

Congrats on your new home. It's great to be a home owner but it sucks that you can't just call the landlord when something needs to be fixed.

For me it was starting my own business. Buying a fishing boat was the start; but it really hit me that I HAD TO BE RESPONSIBLE when I began hiring employees. I was suddenly responsible for not just my livelihood, but the livelihoods of 7 other people as well (and their families).

And congratulations on the new home..... YAY! You're a BIG boy now! :lol:

As for responsibilites....i'm not sure. will have to think about it.

This may sound silly but when I moved in with my boyfriend a year and a half ago I had to think about everything in twos. Everything from grocery shopping (which is much more than 2x what I bought before) to where I will be in 2 years. It is hard sometimes. I think the rest of my college years would have been easier if I hadn't moved in with him but I wouldn't be happy that way. I guess it is a responsibility to another person. We don't have a lot of monetary responsibilities. We rent with another couple, His car was given to him, college loans don't have to be paid yet... The only thing other than rent and bills we have to pay in his motorcycle payment. LOL what responsibilities. This must seem childish to you, you just bought a house! congrats by the way. I would love to have our own house. (of course I would love the proposal first. ;) I don't know how I'm going to get him to go there! LOL)

Congrats on the house. I'm getting ready to make the same jump. I think it was childbirth for me as well. It is a real eye opener.

Hmmm... a very interest question... I don't know when I learnt to be responsible....

Being the second oldest (and having a more commanding presence than my older sister) and of a refugee family, I have always shared the responsibility of looking after my whole family. Often at a young age I had to interpret for my parents, make arrangements on behalf of my parents and plan ahead with regards to the purchase of the family home... and then later my own house. I am more of a parent to my younger sister who I made sure went to the best of school (got her pass the exams to one of the top schools in Melbourne)... and now she is living with me to save up money to go to England to work next year... actually sometimes I wish I could throw away my responsibilities and live a free life like my younger sister.

For me, responsibility continues to increase in incremental steps.

We took the home ownership plunge recently. I guess I like it. It turns out to be slightly more difficult than I thought. Mabye it's because so many other outside events coincided with the signing of the papers, but it's been more of a strain than I would have liked. Too many home improvement projects and not enough time to do them. But, from what I've seen on Lit Net, you look like you wouldn't have much trouble. You'll probably love it.

Exile, now you are back home in life and indeed you are setting up a home,and setting up it is really a matter of glory, and now nice it will be to be together, to be in union with someone who too likes to reciprocate it. Indeed you are going to weave dreams and very beautiful and romantic dreams. It is of course dreams that set a home and without that even one owns a villa that does not become a home.

A grand homecoming!!!

I never realized my responsibilites until they were gone. I remember moving to Kansas and feeling very free - I sold my condo, my car was paid for, I didn't hae to worry about the day to day stuff regarding my family...

I realized my responsibility as a student that I really must study hard. There are a lot of things happening to my life lately and I need to cope up with them all. What I must do is to study. That is my responsibility. That's all I have to do.

Before, I don't read books. Yes, none. Ever. I only read pop-up books and that sucks. I'm not being in my age. So, from that moment on I started to put myself committed to my studying and somehow, I was successful. That was also the time that I knew what my responsibilities are.
