Very intresting. I have only read a translation, and that too at a young age. Tell, me do the Professor's Daughter and his apprentice [Am I right in stating their characters? It gets hazy] have a budding romance, because I remember in the translation it was hinted upon, but because of its young-children nature, references to romance were discluded.
I read a children's illustrated classic of it, but I have yet to read the real thing.
Yes. I've recently read also a translation of "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and liked it very much. Concerning the relationship between the girl (Grauben I think) and professor Lidenbrock's nephew is a love relationship. Actually he promises that when he returns from the center of the Earth, he'll marry her. And this happens at the end.
What did you think of the ending? It reminded me of the ending to 20,000 leagues under the sea.
I found this novel and most of the other Verne novels I read to be interesting but the character lack a certain depth or soul. Science always seems to be the main character but I would mind a little me characterization. Iwas also happy to see that Verne didn't spend half of the book classifying animals.
