What place, values, and dangers does he mention?
It's been a while since I read The Republic, and it's also a question as to how much irony Socrates is using in his discussion of the ideal republic. Generally, art is seen as something which is capable of corrupting the mind. In the ideal republic, Socrates seemed to imply that art needed to be carefully screened in order to have the best effect.
Plato seemed to be suspicious of poets because poetry is essentially a "lie."
