It seems rife with Alcott!!!!
I'm thinking "In cold Bloood" would be a nice year - ender, right?????
-
I love Little Women so much! This would be a good choice.
-
If I may inquire, how are the choices that make the ballot determined? Were these books nominated in a poll of some sort or... how does that work exactly?
-
Never mind that... I have just discovered the December Nominations thread.

[Shmeless advert]Urban fantasy is sometimes called fantasy for people who usually do not read fantasy.
It doesn't take place in mythical pseudomedieval place - it's plot is in a modern city.
You could also call it magical realism.
Charles de Lint is one of the best urban fantasy writers - some consider him the father of the genre.
There are a number of protagonists in "Someplace to be Flying" - Lily, a photojournalist, who is searching for information for the animal people in Newford slums.
Hank, an unlicenced taxi driver from these slums.
Katy, a young woman who has been kept in lunatic asylum by her parents for half her life because of her invisible friend - her twin sister who appeared in her early teens and who has just started a new life - in Newford, in this funny house with strange inhabitants called Aviary.
Jack Daw, a storyteller and a corbae - one of the First People, who was there when the world was created (so that Raven would have someplace to be flying)
So, vote for "Someplace to be Flying"[/Shameless advert]

The great Gatsby, I would like to read that!
-
I'm torn, lol. I wanted to read Little Women a few months ago, I'm still trying to get to finish Angels & Demons, and Tal's shamless advert's captivating... can I vote 3 times? :D
-
The great gatsby, I had to read L.W. for my english class, 'twas pretty uninteresting.
-
I didnt enjoy Gatsby either, I am voting for Truman Capote cos the only thing I've ever read of him (which I cant recall but it was short ;)) was involving.
-
which version of little women would be reading??
the one that includes Good wives (the more normal edition nowadays I belive or the original one ending the chapter before meg gets married ???)
I love alcott wellk with the excveption of work; a story of experiance and Behind a mask; a woman's power.
As I ve always been a sucker for good prpaganda I think Im gona go with Tal's shamless advert :D
-
Someplace To Be Flying. *waves a flag* Someplace To Be Flying!!! :p
NOT Gatsby! Come on people, Gastby? You can do better than that!
*hopes she's still able to get her hands on a copy of STBF :D*
-
I have voted for Little Women because it's Christmasy (although we will have a Christmas reading)... and I have to re-read it again for my BBC reading! :D
-
Scher, What about Christmas Carol? Isn't it more Christmasy?
-
A Christmas Carol is not in the list and also, last year the Book Club read it :)
Soon we will have a nomination-voting thread for our Christmas Reading.
