Why Not Aliens?

I just saw an article that suggested that the Malaysian airliner (MH370) that disappeared was stolen by aliens (link below), and that reminded me of other examples of aliens being used as scapegoats for things that some people are too lazy to understand, and for things where there is no evidence of anything. That is very lazy thinking. I don’t know when the first alien abduction was claimed, but there has not been any definite evidence of alien abduction yet. There have only been wild claims, naked assertions. Such claims are red herrings, distractions from any search for actual facts.
Using aliens to explain anything leaves nothing explained. I heard a claim that human evolution had to have been done by genetic manipulation by aliens, because human FOXP2 genes are different from those of all other species. I didn’t quite laugh, but it is risible. The person who told me about that was sure it was true, until I explained mutation, genetic drift, and species differentiation. The clincher for that person was that human genes were the same as those of another species, then humans would be of that other species. That person had never studied genetics even in a general way.
Then there are the claims that builders of the Egyptian pyramids were aliens. This also is lazy thinking. That wasn’t the only place where humans moved huge pieces of stone, just using ropes, muscles, and rollers or sleds, as the Ancient Greeks described. Now stories are coming out that the aliens have been debunked, so things may move away for that for a while. But that idea should never have come up, because it would disappear with a simple application of Occam ’s razor. There is a much simpler way to explain how those huge blocks were moved, and it didn’t require pulling in aliens of anything else that can’t be proven to have been available.
On the other hand, the claimed evidence of alien visits to Earth is amusing (link below). This article starts with a claim that the Antikythera Mechanism must have been made by aliens; although there is nothing about it that was not within the range of human technology of its time; a number of similar devices are known to have been made, and they are damned clever things. Another interesting thing that the article claims is alien is the Voynich manuscript, which certainly is enigmatic, but there is nothing about it that suggests anything non-human, but I will admit that it is not known who created or where or when; although in general terms it probably was created in the 15th century; its paper was radio-carbon dated to that era. Here again, Occam ’s razor should be applied. There are other very mysterious things that have been found; humans make some strange stuff, but there is no reason to think that aliens made something simply because it doesn’t have a stylized GE and “made in USA” (or something like that) on it. It almost makes me want to create a phony alien relic and see how long the world would be certain that it was alien. I’ll have to think about that.
On the other hand, it probably would be easy to make something that could be passed off as an alien artifact, some enigmatic piece of metal that could be a replacement part for a spaceship stranded on Titan for example. Making a different version of the gold plaque that is in the probe that left the solar system, similar in nature but with different animals shown and a different planet. We could bury the thing near an old tree and claim to have discovered it when we cut down the tree and dig up the roots. We would have to be sure to have some disinterested person there who could be the witness. We could have the slogan “We love humans; they are delicious” in some ancient isolated language, or something along those lines.
If you have time to spend on such things, then you might do some searching, or you might put together some phony “evidence” that aliens are doing something, running the banks, raising humans as food animals, or something else that strikes your fancy. Someone probably has already had the same idea, but you might be able to capitalize on it. Personally, I keep thinking about making something like the Voynich Manuscript that would be more clearly alien. Creating up symbols that are similar but not identical would be easy, and there is an easy way to arrange symbols. I might be able to find an old blank book, and old ink has to be available, or I could mix my own ink.
