Dare

I'm not a spin-the-bottle kind of girl.
You can't catch me with seven minutes in heaven.
I prefer the game that makes you break a sweat,
The one that makes you try a little harder,
Reach a little farther.
Go ahead.
I dare you to prove them wrong.
Pull the laziness out from the center of you with a string –
It feels strange, awakening.
I want you to
Hit me with your passion,
Make me sob in envy
Over the beauty of your dreams,
And the power with which you seek them.
Do it.
I dare you -
I dare you to make a stand,
I double-dog dare you to step outside of your velveteen world
And become Real -
To take down the posters,
To strip off the baby-blue border,
To step into your big-boy shoes
And kick the asses of all of those you said, “You can never-“
Out of your life while whispering,
“Do you see what I can do now?
Do you see who I am?”
I want you to do it.
I don’t want you to settle,
To say, “This is who I am,”
While staring at yourself in a mirror,
A prince in a pauper’s suit,
Whispering, “I want so much more.”
I dare you.
I dare you to make it a Truth.
I dare you to step over here and say to me,
“I did it.”
I might kiss you then, but not before -
Until then, I'll only hold your hand
And give you zits.
