War is kind of boring

Well, I've been deployed for a little over a month now. The time is actually going by pretty quickly, which is nice, but I'm having to find new ways everyday to combat the boredom. I spend a lot of time working out, I have to get my beach-body back before my trip to Hawaii later on this year. I have to run on a treadmil, though, because I can't exactly go out for a nice long run outside. I think that's one of the things I miss most about home... that and beer... glorious, glorious beer. They actually let everyone have two beers while they watched the Superbowl, but I was busy that night and missed out. I also have plenty of time to read. I just finished rereading A Clockwork Orange and I'm going to start The Idiot tomorrow. There have been a few bad-days, but overall, I'm doing well. I am, however, dirtier than I've ever been in my life. As soon as I step out of the shower, it seems, the wind will pick up and coat me in a fine layer of desert dust. I think the first thing I'm going to do when I get home is pour a big ol' glass of scotch and sit in the bath tub for an hour or so.

    Good! I hope to be reading The Idiot before too long...Sorry about the dirt. That's gotta be freakishly annoying. When we were in Lebanon, it was so humid we'd take a shower...and stay wet . Thinking of you!

    Yes personally i'm glad you are bored. At least that way we know you are safe. Reading is good to pass time! Get stuck into something epic and long to pass the time! Maybe see if you can get your hands on Magician by Feist (i'm sure theres some way you can get it!)

    I'm glad that you have a facility where you can work out, as boredom is awful. But I'd rather you be bored than in a dangerous place/time, DJ. You take care (and The Idiot is a great choice).

    Being bored for a long time is quite difficult,but you are intelligent and resourceful,so I think you'll be O.K. But I second the others-I'd rather you be bored than the alternative. Stay well.

    Thank you all. I appreciate the offer qimissung, but we've actually amassed a sizable library here. I think we actually have too many books! It makes it hard to decide what to read next.
