  1. I haven't been up to much as I seem to spend most of my time on this web site. I used to think that people who were addicted to the internet were weak willed but I now know how it happens. I think it's the fact that we can now contact any other computer user that keeps some of us glued to the screen. For someone as young as yourself it probably doesn't have the same significance as it does for me. In the days before computers, the only way to contact people abroad was by letter or telephone which was very expensive. New technology has transformed communications to such a degree, that it seems almost magical that I am communicating with you at this very moment by means of a keybord with instant transmission. So as an older person I can make the comparison with what is happening today and what went before. It is very easy to take something for granted if one has grown up with it, but for me it is simply amazing to have this resource at my fingertips when I belong to the generation that used pen and paper to communicate. It seems pretty obvious to me that letter writing will in due course die out and be replaced with Email and, while there are some people who will regret losing the personal touch of receiving something hand written, I don't see it as such a loss. Like many people, I tend to hold onto written correspondence and I have masses of letters going back years which are just taking up valuable space.

Apart from the computer, I spend the remainder of my day playing the piano, which is also addictive, and reading. My evenings are spent drinking in town with a couple of people who have musical and literary interests similar to my own or just reading a newspaper or talking with the girls behind the bar; as you can see, it's all about relaxing.
  2. Hi there Mr. Bean!

Yes, and it it's quite expensive maintaining a place as it is. There really is no stopping modernization.
Unfortunately, I still haven't received your book. Although, I must say I'm not surprised. I hear it may really take a while to get here. But then again, I don't know much about postal processes.
So what have you been up to lately?

    Princess
  3. Hi Princess,

Good to see you back. I wasn't sure how long you would be away on your trip but if you check out the forums you will see that I have posted a lot of stuff during the past week; especially on the 'Lolita' item on the General Literature site and also 'We Didn't go to the Moon' on the General Chat forum. I have no idea where you went on your field trip but commercialisation of beauty spots is often a problem these days. One of the things I liked about China is that a couple of places I visited were very beautiful and the Chinese had not commercialised them in the way that they would have been in some other countries.
I was hoping that you would have received my book by now as I posted it on the 17th February. Please let me know when you receive it.

    Keep well,

    Brian
  4. Hello Mr. Bean!

I haven't downloaded the pictures from our trip yet, but I'll get to it as soon as I can. I was a bit disappointed when we got to our destination; the place was more commercialized than I had expected! I'm not entirely satisfied with the pictures I've taken, seeing as how I couldn't capture the beauty of the place. But then again, I wondered if there was beauty to capture in the first place. I don't know. *sigh* I believe I now know how those passionate environmentalists feel. I was so indignant at how man could ruin nature! the trip taught me quite a lot.
By the way, I haven't seen you around the forums lately. How are you? I've missed our engaging conversations.

    Love lots,
    Princess
  5. Hello Mr. Bean!

Looks like I spoke too soon. I'm busier this week than I was last week! Oh well...
But anyway, that's the most romantic thing I've ever heard! Makes me want to travel even more.
Two more days till the trip! Can't wait!

    Love lots,
    Princess
  6. Yes, that was the only woman I wanted to marry. I have her photograph in front of me now. One of my happiest memories of her is when we were in London's chinatown and she wore a white silk cheong sam( I think that's how it's spelt ) the high buttoned dress with a split up the side of the skirt. She had a wonderful figure and was the best looking woman in the restaurant we went to. When we had eaten, she insisted on paying and called for the bill. The waiter came up and she placed a Bank of China credit card on his plate. It was emerald green with a golden dragon across it and I felt like the Emperor of China. On another occasion, when we were in Paris, she put on a black pyjama suit like Vietnamese women wear and she looked fabulous. As the old song goes....Memories are made of this.
  7. Hello Mr. Bean!

That sounds absolutely fascinating; I'd be delighted to here about it.
In speaking of Eastern culture, I read a post of yours some time ago about an Oriental lady in a train station.
    *giggles*

    Love lots,
    Princess
  8. I think much of it has to do with the small and even features of orientals, here in the West people often have large features which are uneven and unatractive, but because they don't often come into contact with people from the east, they don't notice it so much as somebody like myself who became interested in Far Eastern culture through a number of different ways over the last twenty years or more. I would like to explain more about this phenomenom, but I think it would be more suitable to E-mail you on the subject when you return from your field trip, because it involves Japanese economic expansion, the Vietnam war, and Chinese economic development.
  9. It's the same observation my friends and I made. American 16 year old girls look 20 years old to us! But I think you're exaggerating. Besides, with anyone who's as fine a company as you, it doesn't really matter.
  10. You're probably in for a bit of a shock but I hope they don't frighten you too much. Anyway, I don't look anything like my avatar and at your age you will probably be doubly shocked. One of the things that I find charming about Philippinas is that, like oriental women in general, they age a lot less quickly than their western counterparts.
Unfortunately, the same goes for men as you will soon see.
When I see photos of myself I always think of that old joke about an official form that asked the manager to list all of the people in his department ..." broken down by age and sex."
