Hey Bien, that's a great avatar, I loved Dr. Suess growing up. It's what first got me hooked on poetry... Especially the silly ones.

Hi ya, today is son's 12th bithday. I posted a birthday message for him, in the general forum. Mwah
Oh, well, good to see you back.

Sorry Bien, fell asleep, so tired, will chat tomorrow. Night.
Shrove Tuesday is the day before Lent begins - Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. (Lent is 40 days long, and is the period immediately before Easter Sunday. Easter Sunday is calculated as the first Sunday after the full moon after the (northern) spring equinox. The "Ash" comes into Ash Wednesday in the ritual that is carried out on that day, which involves dabbing worshippers with some ash, to represent mourning. Lent is intended as a period of penance for whatever sins one may have committed since last Easter.) The "Shrove" part of the name comes from the verb "shriven", meaning "cleansed of sins", that is people used to go to confession on Shrove Tuesday. The pancakes come in because Catholics used not to be allowed to eat any meat or meat products during Lent at all: and so the aim of the pancakes was to use up the left-over fat. Didn't know I knew all that - did you? Hidden talents.
