  1. No, I maintained a dignified silence. Actually, I was probably a little hurt.
  2. I imagine that you would have called the stupid kid Cretin after his hurled insults.
  3. OK, in that case, I had a pair of high-waters. I know because at some point, in some kind of school assembly as I was walking out or in, some kid shouted out at me, 'Hey, Moseley, you waiting for a flood?' The remark had to be explained to me. I thought my not-touching-my-shoes trousers were cool and the kid was stupid.
  4. lol. no! high-waters are jeans that a kid has grown too tall for but his mother insists that he continue wearing them, since they haven't worn out. Actually I never had high-waters until I was older, when I wore them deliberately, in order to show off my big ol' chunky shoes.

I loved the Witch Mountain books and movies! did you see that there is a new movie coming out called Race to Witch Mountain? It looked liked fun from the trailer, except that The Rock is in it.

I have all kinds of quilts that my grandmother made, and embroidered tablecloths and such. and I can hardly sew on a button. she could yodel, too. lol
  5. High-waters? What are they? Some kind of weird medical side effect of wearing jeans too long?

My grandmother used to make us stuff too. Mainly, she used to knit us cardigans. One year, when I'd seen Escape to Witch Mountain and actually wanted a brown zip-up jacket like the kid had in that, I asked for the cardigan to be brown and have a zip. My grandmother thought it was a strange request, but it came out surprisingly great.
  6. hahaha, no, I don't imagine love was as cool as a cap gun to boys of that age.

The best toy I had was a rock polisher, I would collect interesting rocks, polish them and give them as gifts, I got a lot of half-hearted thanks for my trouble.

My favorite shirt was this crocheted rainbow vest my grandmother made, it was awesome, went great with the tough skins~ Sears' brand jeans, a fearsome blend of Dacron Type 59 polyester, DuPont 420 nylon, and cotton. the reason so many kids had high-waters, the jeans refused to wear out!
  7. From earlier, when we lived in DC when I was three to four, I remember saddle shoes and The Electric Company, which was like the programme for cool older kids whom I looked up to. Also Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, which was not. 'It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood'. I don't know about any of this stuff:

Tough Skins, Earth shoes, gigantic tubes of Bonnie Bell cherry Lip Smacker

I remember Benji, obviously. My sister was a big fan. Also Charlie's Angels.

I had a t-shirt making kit when I was six or seven with some hippyish designs in it, one of which just said, 'Love'. I made that one and showed it to a friend at home who told me, clearly looking out for my wellbeing, 'I don't think most of the boys in our class like love'.
  8. I remember purple Tough Skins, Earth shoes, gigantic tubes of Bonnie Bell cherry Lip Smacker, Volkswagen bugs and fire-hydrants painted with the peace sign, rainbows or American flag, my uncle Jake driving around in a converted milk truck selling his wood carvings, hating the mean kids in the film The Red Balloon. My dad less shocked at the buck hippies in the river than we were, that sound of tuning an AM radio at night…the tv console with molded plastic and mesh covered speakers…BENJI!

KISS, haha, my brother's music, my parents hated them. I loved the hits, Seasons In The Sun, Ring My Bell, Fly Like An Eagle.
  9. I've been trying to remember what kind of bicycle I had. It was like a dirt bike, with a big banana-ish shaped seat that was easy to stand on, but not a Chopper. I think everyone had them. Mine was kind of rust coloured I think and beautiful, obviously, like my adidas sneakers, which were dark purple, with that sort of beauty that people barely noticed at the time and now pay a lot of money for.
    My favourite band was Kiss.
  10. argh, I just wrote this whole memory of the seventies thing and then when I went to 'go advanced' I had timed out and lost the entire thing. grr.

I remember the 'wanna go home song' but it was about sleep-away camp, not war.
