  1. Don't get me wrong, I understand how the tea partiers feel and I do not plan to vote for either party for a long time. I don't consider myself that much of a leftist cause I'm that well informed on politics mostly due to laziness. I know where to look and I know most of the respected news sources. What news sources do you use?
  2. When I was your age I would probably have thought the same. The Lib Dems are to the right of Labour but not noticeably so.
As the Tea Party is so prominent among house republicans, it surely raises the question: Why? And the answer is because both parties have failed the country, as witness the current situation. Similarly, my view of the UK parliament is that they have failed the UK, as witness the current situation. The Tea Party may be largely comprised of fanatical nationalists but desperate times need desperate measures. Personally, I would never vote for the Democrats; democracy is only an idea but the republic is the ground I stand on.
  3. I have respect for conservatism but I feel that nearly all of the current GOP presidential nominees are clowns.
  4. Never mind the comment about the Lib Dems. It was a piece of information I misinterpreted.
  5. I heard the Liberal Democrats of the UK were actually on the right. The Tea party republicans actually control a good portion of the house but they're mostly composed of fanatic nationalists who are the type of people who think glen beck is a credible pundit. I'll admit the recent occupy wall street movement isn't much saner.
  6. I'm not a Conservative Party supporter although I am conservative in a general sense.
Experience has taught me that socialism has very bad side effects that harm a lot of people; most notably by allowing them to think that the state will look after them no matter how irresponsible they are. The current administration in the UK is a coalition of Conservatives and Liberals which, in my view, is a contradiction in terms, but anything is better than Labour who allowed the UK to become bankrupt for the second time since WW11 ;the first being in 1976. Socialism is a creed that means well without understanding that the road to hell is paved with good intentions and I am very much against it.
  7. As for the US, I don't see the Democrats having any answer to the economic crisis that is worsening by the day, as in the UK, the Federal Reserve is printing money to try to stem the looming collapse, but that policy is fraught with danger of inflation thus making the US dollar less attractive to foreign buyers. It has already been downgraded by one rating agency from its AAA status and the US productive capacity has flat-lined for almost two consecutive quarters. So the US isn't making money and they owe about $14trillion. I don't expect Messrs Obama and Geithner to be able to do much about it. In saying that, I haven't forgotten that it was the Republicans who caused the mess under G W Bush's disastrous administration.and I don't think they could do much either. If I were a US citizen, I would probably be thinking of voting for the Tea Party wing of the Republican movement.
  8. So I notice that you are a conservative. What do you think of the current administrations of Britain and America?
  9. I may sound interesting but perhaps it's only the way I post on the forum.
It isn't advisable to deduce from the Internet someone's character on the strength of what they have written. I try to keep my posts varied by serious discussion on important matters and injecting an element of humour into the not so serious threads.
Although it's nice of you to say so, I do not regard myself as an interesting person, but not following the normal pattern of behaviour i.e. marriage, kids, family life etc. has given me the chance to pursue my interests in a way that many are unable to.
However, if you want to correspond via the forum, please do; as you can see, others make contact from time to time.
  10. You sound like a very interesting person and I would like to get to know you better.
