  1. Yes, you're absolutely right, it's an amazing genre, full of beauty and mystery. Well, first of all, "Vengeance is mine" of Epica comes from an instrumental album of the band that's called "The Score", trully amazing piece of music. Epica is from Holland, their singer is a mezzo- soprano, called Simone Simons, and they play Symphonic Metal. Still, some of their songs contain brief grunts, but I believe that they are combined with angelic vocals in an excellent way. Now, Leaves' Eyes is another Symphonic Metal- and also Folk, in some cases- band from Germany. They follow the same patter, more or less, operatic female vocals, briefly combined with grunts. They often insert violins and harps in their songs, along with the usual riffs, drums, and keyboards. These two bands are excellent examples of the modern Symphonic Metal. I believe that you know Nightwish, so there's no need to introduce anything here, they're probably the best example, although I believe that soon, Epica will reach their level. Now, I don't know whether you know the Dutch band called Within Temptation, another example of the genre, but without grunts, only operatic- mostly- vocals. Excellent music, again. Following those headlining bands, come others, less famous, but quite talented acts, like After Forever, Krypteria, Delain. Also, there are bands with male singers that support the genre of Symphonic Metal, like Kamelot, and the Northern Kings. They are equally good. Last but not least, if you want to enjoy a combination of pure Opera with a rock feeling- but I wouldn't call it Metal, at all- check Tarja Turunen's album, the former singer of Nightwish. Still, this is not Metal at all, but you'll enjoy a beautiful voice. I think that these bands are the gems of the genre right now. You can ask me whatever you want, ok? I think you will love it, because it' a rare, beautiful sound, and I'm happy to see that more and more people fall in love with the music.
  2. amalia, you'll laugh, but I don't really know!! On the Pandora website I have a station that occasionally plays those songs (which is how they got on the now playing thread) and I like them very much, but I haven't listened to any others except those i get on Pandora. I was just thinking, yesterday in fact, that I really need to look up some more of their music and I thought of you . Can you suggest some for me? I'd like to explore the genre .
  3. Viewing the "Now Playing" thread,I've noticed that you were listening to Epica and Leaves' Eyes, so I need to ask: Do you like Symphonic Metal? Because I just LOVE these two bands, among others, like Nightwish.
