Howdy, I don't wish to detract from the masculine seriousness of the thread, so about that wall. When I saw the batter, my initial thought was a retaining wall, but then I realized the wall is rather a "fence". Hopefully that isn't a derogatory or insulting reference. Anyhow, I'm guessing that it is battered on both sides. How many wythes? and /or what are the sectional profile dimesnsions? I didn't notice clinkers being used, although, from what I understand, they are primarily used for aesthetic dressing up purposes. I was this>< close to using "coping". I think of coping, whether pre cast or natural stone, as laying "flat". Is the vertical orientation a family method or more of a typical approach? The polychrome blending of green, grays and tans is nice. Your wall brought me back to Chaco... http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_1449.jpg
Merry Christmas Prendrelemick (from my old stamp collection)... click on the thumbnail.
Glad to know you caught the program regarding the Chaco Culture. It is truly a mysterious place. The religeous / cultural center theory has gained popularity over the past few years. In fact there are some who believe that the "pueblo" structures were only inhabited during religeous or cultural festivals. I tend to dissagree since there is clear evidence of large rectangular tracts of land where crops were grown. Fascinating stuff indeed. Gg
Hi GG Since your message, Chaco has been featured in a BBC series about the Universe, in an episode concerned with time. There are 12 pillars built on the Eastern horizon to mark the sunrise at different times of the year. I was thinking that could be why the city was viable - as an astrological / religous centre.
Hello, Mick. I figured I'll let my Chaco thread fall back a few pages and respond to your question here. The "Anasazi" had mastered the ability to grow corn in that enviornment. Corn was the staple food, but they also hunted rabbits, turkeys. There is a small wash that runs through the valley which provided water. Why they chose this particular canyon is a mystery, since there are many other areas in the region with more reliable resources. Gg
Thanks Gilliatt, Merry Christmas and may your frisbees be forever dry.
Belated Merry Christmas to one of my favorite Bards! and hope you have a great new year. Cheers, Gilliatt

prendrelemick, Thanks for the return friend request. However, I seem to be having trouble accepting your particular request, so bear with me. I'm not ignoring you.
prendrelemick, I know I am a bit odd, but if you'll have me, I would like to be added as a friend. I promise not to be too chatty. Gilliatt
