  1. A Belgian Beer or Ale... I'm jealous.

All I got was socks and underwear...

and two different complete box sets of Wagner's entire Ring cycle coming in the mail!!!!

Thanks to a bonus for our students actually surpassing their state established goals last year!!!
  2. Merry Christmas mate, hope you had a good one. (We have two Christmas dinners one at the in-laws and my own on Boxing Day - I prefer Boxing Day.) Just got a Belgian beer in the fridge about to partake!!!
  3. Merry Christmas!
  4. Unfortunately I let myself get drawn into debates that I should never have gotten involved in. Charles Bukowski... super genius, indeed!
  5. Hi Stlukes how are you? Did you manage to go and visit that friend of yours who lives near New York?

I must say, I'm taking an absurd degree of pleasure from some of those recent postings of yours in the general literature section...

I'm having a great time off of the evils of work, though I've got bits and pieces of things to do, nothing too serious though.
  6. Yes I can see how you'd be tempted with the offer, it sounds like a very good opportunity to get to New York and meet up with your friend at the same time. I assume that there is some value in getting to Boston as well. I guess you'll have to weigh up the pros and cons of it all.

Good luck with the gallery prospects. That would certainly be a good move if you could get your foot in the door somewhere and sell a few paintings maybe, got to be a better career than teaching if you can make it pay - though I suppose you'd settle for some extra CD and book money first!

    Keep up the good work.
  7. My closest friend from college and some 10 years after, with whom I shared a studio for years, now lives in Connecticut... an hour or so out of New York and not much further from Boston. He has invited me up to his home for a week or two offering to pay all expenses for flight, room and board... in return for helping him a bit on his home. He is currently building a major addition onto it to give himself studio space. We would visit New York at least a couple of times and probably Boston as well. I'm seriously considering his offer, although it would cut some into my summer studio time.

This is the time of the year when I am able to get the most done on my painting and I am looking to begin sending out flyers to prospective galleries by summer's end with the goal of attaining gallery representation... and possibly even selling some work.
  8. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. I have a friend who just returned from a trip to Britain, including some 5 days spent in London. He began with a stay in Scotland working on the crew of a runner participating in a super-marathon (95 mile) run along the course of the West Highland Way and then spending the night at Inverlochy Castle. From Scotland he flew to London, exploring the National Gallery, The British Museum, the Tate, the Tate Modern, and several historic landmarks. He might have seen a good deal more... including Le Nozze... at the Royal Opera... but he arrived too late due to his penchant for being a true skinflint and insisting upon walking everywhere rather than shelling out a bit for cab or bus fare.
  9. Hi, had a great time getting to the opera in London, will certainly be making more trips!

The Royal Opera House is certainly a stunning place and the performance was magic.

I could have done with more time really, as I only had a couple of hours spare outside of the performance, just enough time to wander around Covent Garden a little, grab a bite to eat and nip in a pub for a pint (of course) so I'll have to organise another trip shortly, maybe just to generally explore.

Anyway, how are you? Keeping well I hope?
  10. Yeah, I like his style, seems like some very interesting art too, though I am no real judge of artwork.

I suppose it is just easier sometimes to go along with the elitist label, it saves time having to go though the same old ground over and over again. Really, I think literary critics are more hated than investment bankers or estate agents the way people go on sometimes.
