Cool. Yea, Franzen was or is pretty much acclaimed. He just fell on the short list of current fiction books. Eh, do not fear - I'm oblivious to rudeness.
I just started The Corrections and it is decent. I'll definitely finish it. The characters are almost to realistic- the mother (Enid) makes me want to put a paper bag over her head anytime I have to read her dialogue. I also started The Idiot, which is REALLY good. B the way, I am completely oblivious if my last comment was rude- Mr. Jersea gets after me when I get like that- kind of cynical and rude.
I'm still reading and its really ****ing hot in NJ. Been down the shore at the ocean. Amazing weather over the fourth. Will be returning to the Lake to realx. Hope the pool and AC help keep you cool. When I was there in June it was so hot!
Yea, Murakami is one of my favourite authors - Kafka on the Shore and After Dark were both really good. After Dark is very short and very good - l like is stream of Consciousness style. Ugh hot as hell today, just retreating from the pool to the AC.
No, but you just put a big smile on my face. The book looks very good or it seems like 2 books in one? Anyway, I will get it after I finished The Damned and the Beautiful by Fitzgerald. I'm enjoying it immensely. Another author I enjoyed lately was Haruki Murakami- Norwegian Wood. It a lyrical coming of age story-beautiful prose, but some find it a little slow. Thanks for the resommendation- I'll let you know what I think.
Hey Beegirl, happy to you had good trip! I was checking if you had read The Corrections or Freedom by Jonathan Franzen?
Terrible. I never made it out of the hotel in Stockholm. I ended up staying in a dump by the airport. JS slept all afternoon, so we ate in the motel restaurant and went to bed early. The burdens of traveling with a child, although he is the best traveling companion I could ever ask for. He was so well behaved and tolerant! Anyway, thanks for the advice, everything was amazing. It feels so good to get out and see the world.
Yeah, they had riffles made out of Pennsylvania. It was the newest technology and I guess the newer muskets were pretty reliable. They said you could shoot the riffle 250 yards accurately, but the musket only half that disastance or close to that. That's funny, because it makes me think about how Americans really do love their guns and farm folk have no interest in listening to anyone except maybe a good neighbor or reliable folks from the church.
I'm sure they could all shoot better than the British. Then, and now.
