I know what you mean - but sometimes being forced to write something new using someone else's instructions is a great motivation to keep your creative cogs turning - this month's Picture Poem competition should be just up your street (a goth bride all in red) (lol)
I'm not really much for competition, only taking part is fun for me
Great news - there are some good competitions if you search them out... and it's good fun to pit your craft against other writers
