I guess all scientists can't be the amazing man Tesla was. He envisioned things perfectly and never really needed much experimentation. Have you ever read much about Tesla?
But that's ok, thinking deeply and theorizing in math. Especially in astrophysics, experiments aren't possible...it has to be theories and formulas. But it worked, didn't it...because in the end they were able to land something on Mars.
