Thanks much Qimissung, My twin niece and nephew, from brother in law's side, birthday is the day after mine. They are now 9 years old. Over the years we've combined the birthday celebrations at therir house, of course mine is a essentially a cameo appearance.
Ha! Whose birthday is your family celebrating this weekend, Gilliatt??? Since I lack even the most rudimentary technological skills, I'll have to limit myself to merely saying Happy Birthday!!! Hope it's awesome.
Small world. It was getting late at that point in my trip, so I stayed the night in Bartlesville and visited the Wright tower the next morning. When copper is used for exterior applications, it is typically selected for that very reason; the green "patina". If unaided in the process, it does take some time (years) to turn green.
Actually, Gilliatt, I'm from Bartlesville, so I'm very familiar with the Frank Lloyd Wright building there! Did you know when it was new, the copper was all shiny and it later turned green which made everyone sad! They didn't know that he knew of that particular property of copper and had planned it! That's what I heard, anyway.
Hey, thanks for taking a tour of my pics and leaving the nice comments! Glad you enjoyed them. Ponca City was a back road stop off on my final trip home from my work assignment in Rockford Ill., from there I went through Bartlesville Ok., to see a Frank Lloyd Wright building. You will need a very large courtyard to fit Bernini's "Fountain of the Four Rivers"!
I don't either, much, and I guess it is kind of high schoolish, in a good way. I've never de-friended anybody anyway. That seems wrong. Anyway, here's to friendship.
Thanks for the request. I really havn't put much thought in the friends requests since I figured it goes without saying for you and many others, but now we can make it official! Salute.
Thank you, Gilliatt, for the link. I did not go see the exhibition this summer. I did, however, have a copy of a pamphlet telling about it that I think I saved because it had Smoke of Ambergris on it-and I had never seen it and was so completely struck by it. I'm sure it was twenty thousand times more beautiful when you saw it in person. By the way, I'm sending you a friendship request. Apparently we aren't "friends" yet!
Glad you enjoyed it. I learned of Sargent during one of my visits to the Art Institute of Chicago a couple years ago. The painting I attached was one I posted in the name the painting game. Did you happen to see the Impressionist exhibit at the Kimbell a few months ago? Four Sargent paintings were sent over to the Amon Carter Museum as part of the tour. Here's my post in the Art Thread: post 69- http://www.online-literature.com/for...t=64250&page=5
Gilliatt, thank you for the John Singer Sargent you "gave" me for my birthday. I love, love, love it. There's a good reason he's famous, eh?
