  1. I believe that there is a connection...
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Phantom_of_Manhattan
Does the Barnes & Noble clerk know you by first name?
  2. No...it's definitely a book. I believe that the setting is in New York years after the end of the Phantom... I wish that I could remember the title...
  3. Barnes and Noble sells an abridged version of "Les Miserables" that's only about 800 pages. A lot of the political facts have been eliminated. I have that one, but I've never read it.

Do you mean a sequel to the musical "Phantom" - "Love Never Dies?" That's scheduled to open early this winter, I think.
  4. I agree...ALW could have...but it would have changed the outcome. I find the Persian to be quite a mysterious man also. That's a topic for discussion, I may have to read it again... Did you know that there was a sequel written to the Phantom...by another author. I have it...I read it, but I only remember bits of it. I'll have to dig it out of my many boxes of books sometime.
  5. I agree about the movie Les Miserables. I love Liam Neeson...he's been a favorite clear back to The Bounty. He was in two of the Darkman films...not sure if you've heard of those. Have you seen Taken? I've wanted to, but the opportunity hasn't risen. ...I got distracted on Liam...sorry... I wanted to say that in spite of the movie, I still enjoyed it, but there are many other versions, at least two of them in English, not to mention several television broadcasts. But the book is a classic...I've been wanting to read it again...it's not one that you just read over the summer...not unless your job is reading books...and you're not married...no kids...no life... Maybe we can break it down the book using the version found on LitNet...that's how I found this site in the first place.
  6. There was a scorpion in one casket, and a grasshopper in another. Christine had to turn one around to indicate yes or no.

I think ALW could do justice to anything, but to include all the details would have been "too much." It would have weighed the musical down.

Then again, I watched the movie version of "Les Miserables" last night, and I really didn't like it. It just glossed over things, though I did think Liam Neeson was perfect as Jean Valjean.
  7. That would be a good discussion topic...unfortunately it's been long enough ago for me that the details are foggy...What was it...a scorpion and a grasshopper? I thought that ALW (Andrew Lloyd Webber) missed a great character by excluding the Persian, but on the other hand, I don't think that he could have done justice to developing him.
  8. Sure, I have. Many times.
  9. Have you read Gaston Leroux's The Phantom of the Opera?
  10. How's your day going? Well, I hope. I was just here for a little while earlier, about six, then I went back to bed. One of the advantages of working for myself is that I can make my own hours. Just as long as the work gets done, and it does.
