  1. Thanks for the friend request, and I'm sorry I called you gimissung in your very own blog, of all places!
  2. I think your grandmother and my mom must have had a few things in common. It's hard to watch them lose their independence, isn't it? But I'm glad your grandma got to be herself to the end, and I'm glad your memories of her are sweet.

I think those two things might be among the best gifts life has to offer us.
  3. I figured if you took the time necessary to write out the story of your mother's death, I could at the very least take the time to tell you that I appreciated the gift of your sharing it with us.

It's funny how the stories of others can evoke memories and the experiences from our own lives. As I read your touching tribute to your mom, I couldn't help but think not of my own mom (who died quite abruptly when I was in high school), but my grandmother. She was very much a southern matriarch: haughty and a bit domineering, but with a fierce love for all her family. Moving into a care facility and the subsequent loss of independence was clearly difficult for her, but she was tough as nails (with a very wry sense of humor) to the end. So how could I not thank you for making me think about my grandmother, whose passing was sad, but whose memory is so sweet?

    Oh, and happy birthday!
  4. Thank you for stopping by my blog. That was so very kind of you.
