In 2010, I was a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma working towards a degree in online journalism. Well, I successfully completed my degree and I'm now a working journalist (but I have been called a half-baked journalist by the lovely people who comment on our website, so it might not count :coolgleamA:)

I've thought about logging back in every once in a while, but things come up. Actually, I think I forgot my password a few times and maybe an email became defunct. And I will admit that different things became more important (not necessarily school work either.)

I now live in Tulsa, Okla., but I will soon make the trek north to Minneapolis/Saint Paul!

But now I'm back and I won't forget my password.

I hope those of you I used to chat with are doing well!

Little Update on what has been driving me away from the amazing forum.

I was asked by my journalism professor this semester to do undergraduate research on social media becoming a tool for "Citizen Journalists" as well as an advocacy tool. I'm a journalism major with a focus on multimedia/online. For that same class we have our own "Newsie" blogs--well mine is much more feature like rather than "Newsie" but I really love working on mine. If you are interested to see what I've been doing check it out! okvox.blogspot.com
Next semester I will be continuing with my Undergraduate Research & will actually be presenting it in March! Exciting news!

I will be in London & Paris next summer for a three week Media Study Abroad program! Yay! Directly after that trip (hopefully! Fingers cross friends!) I'll be accepted to a Media Fellowship at the Walter Cronkite Center in Arizona! I really want this.

That's what I've been up to the past few months. Last summer I was in Mexico (as usual) but I think that will be the last time I'll be visiting until after I graduate. Bummer.

How has everyone else been!?!

SO, I've been incredibly lazy about logging onto LitNet and other things since my first year of college ended. I got some great opportunities to travel and I didn't even hesitate in taking them. I've barely even back home and I'm already about to leave for Mexico next week! I am very excited. My Uncle died recently and ever since then my Grandmother has gotten ill. That isn't exciting, but I love visiting all my family down there. Hopefully I will be able to travel around, but I think it is more important to spend time with my Abuelita. :)

I'm actually lacking in words today--must be because it is rather late and I'm getting sleepy. I'll do my best to not be lazy and get back into the groove of things. I definitely need some recommendations in books to read for my trip, so hit me up. Also, if anyone has Twitter I'd like to know. For my journalism classes last semester we did this "research project" on Twitter and since then I've been fascinated with it. Rather narcissistic, but whatever. Haha, so I guess I'm just writing this to say hi to everyone! And I'm back!!:D

Norman Music Festival. Amazing. If all of you were from Norman, I would leave it at that. Unfortunately I think the majority of you missed out. But that is ok, because I am here to fill you in!!!

Norman Music Festival is/was a free all day musical event (obviously) on 12 different stages all along Main Street. That is the boring part.

Any fans of OF MONTREAL?!?!?! No?! Yes?! No doubt there are. Well they performed on the Main stage on Main (ha!). They performed so......aah, it was brilliant. Of course they had elaborate costumes and the music seemed to be better live(which is hard to accomplish for a lot of musicians). I ended up front row center stage. How do you like that! It was a fabulous show and I know have a crush on Kevin Barnes, the singer/guitarist.

Other performances that are worth mentioning are: Man Man, The Uglysuit and the Starlight Mints(local Norman band). All you music lovers or people searching for new bands, check out The Starlight Mints. They are amazing performances.:D

I love weekends. They are completely devoted to nothing--but I always end up doing something. At the moment, I am trying to recover from the massive intake of food. Man, when I think about the meal I just demolished, my mouth starts salivating. What is a real Easter meal? I was just curious, because my mom and I cooked classic Mexican food. Carne Asada, queso Asadero with scallions, beans, homemade salsa and guac...oh man. PLUS! My mom made the best bread pudding in the world. I feel like napping, but I have to return to my recent creation.

Octopus. I mentioned this in my last post, but ocotpuses are way cool. I love the way my mind automatically attributes a certain texture to them, even though it is most likely the opposite sensation. I think the very first octopus had too many dreams or interests or things to do and that is why they have so many tentacles. Pretty nifty creatures. I guess I should attribute my interest in octopus to my nautical upbringing. My dad being in the Navy and all...plus growing up mainly on an American coast. Although I can't really say Oklahoma counts, despite it having more coastal area when combining all of the lakes and ponds.

I don't know why I put "Cave Man" as the title, but in the moment I typed it in it felt good.

It has been FOREVER since I've been on--or at least a long time.

FIVE MORE WEEKS. And then the semester will be over. Thank goodness. I've decided that I really--And I Mean Really-- don't like economics. It is interesting, but I can't stand it. I had my second microeconomics exam today and I am feeling pretty good about it. First time I've felt good about anything in awhile. Even though the end of my first year in college is coming to an end, I am still sticking with my major. Apparently that is pretty rare. Or so I am told. I was close to changing though, but I am pretty happy with the way things are turning out.

Has anyone read Valis by Philip K. Dick? Or The Cheese Monkey by Chip Kidd? A friend told me about Valis and it sounds interesting. I just found out that he is the same writer of Minority Report, A Scanner Darkly and Paycheck! I had no idea. And I started the first chapter of The Cheese Monkey at work the other day. I guess the writer is coming down to OU to discuss it, but I wasn't sure if anyone else has read his stuff or whatever.

Lets see--I've become incredibly inspired by octopus' and jellyfish recently. I don't know what it is about them, but all of my recent paintings/drawings have some design element based on these sea creatures. I really want to paint a pair of shoes with a cool octopus design...but I'm backed up with so many other things. It is sad.

OK. I need some advice. Male or female. Both perspectives are welcome. I guess I should give some background information on it though....

So it all started with some fool pulling the fire alarm in my building two weeks ago. I 'evacuated' with my roomie and suite-mate and we headed to a small convenience market across the street. I was just in my jammies (1 a.m!) and super sleepy. Because of my sleep deprived state, I wasn't conscious of my manners and yawned deeply and openly. And this really, really cute boy was staring at me and started laughing. I just shrugged it off and laughed as well--I think I may have apologized...anyways, I've seen the guy around my building and campus--and I'm pretty sure he has seen me before. We did one of those awkward 'move out of the way' dances a few days ago. And the most I've ever said to him was "Excuse me, sorry...uhh, thanks!" Should I go introduce myself? Should I extend the olive branch of friendship first? I can't work up the courage, but I really like him--and its sad because I don't even know his name, but he just seems really cool. Ugh, thats my problem. I don't know where to go from "Excuse me, sorry...uhh, thanks!".

I think that is about all that has happened since the last time I posted...sad, but it seems that homework has completely taken over my life. :(

Thanks for any help!!

Hope everyone had a good Labor Day! I know I did! I went with my mom to this podunk town to get a dog, or rather my replacement.:) It's a cloud--both in appearance and in texture. His name is Rupert--I got to name him. It was either Rupert, Polar or Bebo. Obviously I won.:thumbs_up My dad calls him mop though...and in some ways he is.

Anyways, so far I haven't had any problems with my classes, but I don't have very much of a social life. All of my friends are at different universities, so I'm all alone. I'm going to be joining some clubs, so I'm sure that will help me out. Plus, my journalism professor has a Dream Course about documentaries. A Dream Course is a free course that Professors come up with and a certain number of them are selected to be funded by the University so students can participate in. So on monday the first documentary is playing. It is called "Screamers" and it is about the Armenian Genocide. The director actually used the band System of a Down in the film I believe. It sounds incredibly interesting. SO we get to see it for free and have a discussion with the director afterwards.

Anyone here listen to Ludo?? Well, you should because they are AMAZING! Anyways, I went and saw them last wednesday. I got there at four(First in line!) and doors didn't open till 8:30. That kind of sucked since it was raining a little bit and I just had on a t-shirt and jeans. It was worth it though. The guys in Ludo are great entertainers. Really passionate about music and really nice, fun dudes. Definetly check them out. Another cool thing about them is that they are on the same record label as another really awesome band called The Urgency. So every music lover should check these guys out.

Alright, I guess I'm done for the night. I've got really bad allergies at the moment so I'm gonna take my meds and hit the sack. Tomorrow is a home game day so I work all day. Grrr. At least everyone is happy because we know we are going to win.:D:thumbs_up
I'm just walking along making sure no one is about to jump out at me, when out of NOWHERE! this bicycle slams into my left side. I go flying off of the curb and into the street and then both bike and rider fall on top of me. How does that even happen to anyone!?! Never would I have imagined that ever happening to me. Now I have this lovely bruise on my left thigh and back that matches my elbow gashes. So after he apologized a-BAZILLION times(I just wanted to go home and sleep), and walked me back to my dorm building(he carried my backpack), to my surprise there was a miniture lion sitting in the middle of the hall. This evil hall guardian is just sitting there blocking my access to my room. His ears were all flat and I'm pretty sure he was growling at me like he was actually a lion. It was an intense showdown. So finally I picked up my backpack and threw it in front of Mr. Wanna-be-Lion and he went flying down the opposite hall. Now I'm safe and sitting on my bed avoiding my pre-calc homework. Ah, what lovely college days.:thumbs_up

Anywho, my first class was English Comp 2. My professor seems pretty cool. He's very young, or at least younger than I imagined. He is still getting his Masters and then I guess he wants to get his Ph.D. My next class is German...I'm just waiting for lunch. Its nice only having three classes a day. I have Pre-Calc for business minors after German and then I'm done! I'm really excited for my Journalism class tomorrow though.

Now I'm just relaxing in my dorm room. Hopefully I will be able to go back home tonight. My very good friend is heading off to college on friday and with my school/work schedule, I won't be able to see her unless I go today. She is heading off to Washington D.C. to the most expensive university in the nation...George Washington University. One day you will read about her in the papers(hopefully written by me). She is incredibly smart and is going to be a very decent politician. Rare, I know, but it will happen with her.

Hey everybody! So sorry its been such a long time since I was last on. This past year has been incredibly crazy and I have no idea where to start. I guess I shall just start with my most recent events.

I just moved into my dorm room yesterday. I feel like I'm writing a thank you letter to my family/friends...I gotta jazz this up! How's this, my room mate is from Nigeria! She seems pretty cool...although I only saw her for about thirty minutes. I got a job working at the bookstore just down the road from my dorm. Its been crazy there. I worked 9 1/2 hrs. alone today. Kind of ridiculous, but at least I'll be getting a fat pay check. Believe me, I need the money! Too bad money doesn't grow on trees. Actually their is a text book called "Where does all the money go?" It's itty-bitty, but it costs about 50 bucks. I made out like a bandit in the text book department though. :)

Oh, I never even mentioned where exactly I'm going to school. I ended up deciding on going to the University of Oklahoma. They gave me the most money...well, Baylor and TCU did...but I don't think I would have fit in their. Plus, OU has an awesome Journalism program and thats my major. I'm minoring in International Business and Arabic or German. Sorry Virgil, I ended up going against Engineering. Artsy stuff is much more my style. :D Anywho...yeah, I don't really know what else to say. Any advice on anything?
I feel bad because I'm just kinda like, well I'm happy for you but not...I feel like she is going to change everything...that he will just stop hanging out with 'the gang' and just, yeah. I mean the girl is nice, but I dunno. I did like him, but not anymore...as shallow as it might be, I think it also comes off of it just being me and him...not dating or whatever, but being close friends. Now I'm worried he'll just forget about me and ditch me.

Stupid me, I know.

I saw Good Luck Chuck tonight...it was ok. A lot of sex and breasts, but Dane Cook is hilarious and cute. The movie overall was really funny, but at the beginning, the sex stuff was just kind of awkward. Not nearly as weird as Knocked Up though!

I'm actually pretty tired so I think I'm just gonna stop now. I don't have anything to say except I got this super cute blue dress at Ann Taylor's The Loft! It looked pretty block-like on the hanger, but after I tried it on...wow! It is so great! I took my senior photos in it...those took awhile!

OMG! My hair is SOOOO straight. I've never seen it straight before...its always been really funky and curly. This time I wanted to try something new so we straightened it. It looks really chic, thats for sure! Ok, sleep time!

Happy Belated Independence Day MEXICO! WOOHOO!!!!!

Anyways...yeah, that day, Sept. the 15th. I was taking the ACT in Wichita Falls, TX. I drove 3 1/2 hrs. friday after school to take the test. Its cool though, I slept the entire way there and my mom drove!

Although I was nervous the night before, I'm feeling pretty confident that my score increased! It better have! I didn't drive all the way there and spend my summer studying to have it stay at the same score...AGAIN! My counselor and College-Form Filler-Mentor guy said that my score was where my GPA or grades in school should be. I don't know why! He says my score should be higher, I guess I just suck at that test.:(

It was pretty fun though...or at least the drive back because I got to listen to good music and drive at 80mph without worrying about getting a ticket! Good times. I love just driving.

TEN MORE DAYS TILL MY JROTC JR/SR TRIP TO WASHINGTON DC!!!!!!!!!! Yay! I'm so happy! I get to skip two days of school and three days that I would normally work, and go have fun in DC. We get to visit the Smithsonian, Naval Academy, The White House...we get to see a Orioles game and the NAVY vs chAIR Force game. Haha! I used to live in Annapolis so I've seen this stuff before, but its going to be so nice visiting it again. I haven't been there since I was in the 2nd grade...which was forever ago!

I've narrowed down my list of colleges I'm looking at!

Here it goes!

OSU-back up school
OU-back up school
Univ. of Missouri-Columbia
Univ. of Colorado-Boulder
Rider Univ.
Concordia Univ.
TCU
LaSalle Univ.
Valparaiso Univ.
Univ. of Maryland
Northeastern Univ.
AMERICAN Univ.-MY SCHOOL!!!

I've got a couple more, but I think this is the list...well, I still need to kick some of them off...but there yah go. I really love the East Coast, so I'm really hoping that American or Maryland or Northeastern accept me...and throw some money at me so I can go!

AND, I've pretty much got what I want to do down. Either Journalism/Mass Commuications and a International Buisness, or I may just major in Journalism/MC...with a minor in Languages(German most likely...). I'm still toying with the idea of engineering, but I dunno. I'm just happy I've got a better idea of what I want to do!:D :D :D I'm super excited though...I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sleep time now! I'm exhausted from driving and reading etc. (exhausted from reading? Say it ain't so!):)
PS-the entire way back from Wichita Falls, Rihanna's song Shutup and Drive was playing. Every 20minutes that song popped up. Thats why I titled my title that...:thumbs_up

The List...

My physics teacher is insane. My physics teacher is creepy. My physics teacher is a wannabe. My physics teacher doesn't know anything.

The List GOES ON!!!!!!!!!

First day of school he begins my telling the entire class that during college he didn't know what the word moderation was. That once your nickname is named after an alcoholic drink, you know you're in trouble. Also, we learned a VERY important lesson. Don't shoot the girl you like with a paintball....and especially don't shoot her in the eye...'cause thats what lands you in prison. Oh, you can't believe that amount of gangs we have in the area. Its crazy!!!! He gave us a list of over one hundred different gangs just in my town. And cleaning blood isn't fun apperantly.

I sit in the very front of class...so I'm not distracted right? Well, guess what I have learned in the past three weeks...everything stated above. I've also learned that in his class, tests don't matter. HW doesn't matter. So basically, we just sit there. I took a nap today and the day before. Remember I sit in the front row. Did he say anything? NO. This kid has slept everyday in that class since the very first day...he still hasn't gotten in trouble. I tried talking to one of my counselors...bascially they told me to suck it up. That I should keep up with the class so I'm not going into college without some background. That PERHAPS I should have a conference with him...NO, he is creepy and weird...mildly disturbing to tell you the truth. I don't want to be alone in a room with him. So I told my counselor that I guess I wouldn't be learning anything this year. What a shame...

If thats how its going to be, why bother with going to class?! I mean, I don't go to school for fun...I go to school to learn!

Oh, by the way, we have a test tommorrow...and I don't know what it is over because we haven't LEARNED anything. This is insane...

Ok, physics rant is over with...

I really enjoy my AP-Language class though. My teacher is totally cool...she said that it was basically Paranoia 101. Thats because she is really into Orwell and Huxley.

Our Socrates Cafe Club started of very well. Better than expected actually. The first topic was over: Is violence acceptable. And if so, what is the extent of the use?

Pretty cool. The club is dominated by seniors...12 actually and 3 freshman and one sophmore.

Thats pretty much all I've got to say...OH! I got my photos developed from my trip to Mexico! (FINALLY) I'll post some of them up soon...anywho.

I am feeling so much better. The only thing that is wrong with me is my sinus pressure. My left eye is in so much pain...it sucks. It hurts when I blink....but, coffee made it so much better.

I hit so many coffeehouses this past weekend. Its was amazing. But enough of that...

How do people deal with stress. I've always just pushed it to the back of my mind until it hits me and I have an anxiety attack. I'm not asking this for me, but rather a good friend of mine. I just found it interesting how people who seem perfectly balanced, or unbalanced(me;) ) handle stress...

Isn't it amazing how our bodies just shutdown under stress...as if it was a physical force or whatever. I find it very, very interesting...even though it seriously is not very fun.:)

This isn't going to be very long, because I have to hit the sack and prepare my body for my second calculus test of the year...yes it has only been a week and one day. Amazing isn't it?!

But out of the stress of college applications, I was wondering, which schools would you recommend for a person who:

-wants to live in the city
-interested in studying languages, journalism, international buisness and possibly engineering...
-is affordable:p I'm not exactly rich.
-good school
-interested in art, music, and just different cultures...I want to see and meet new people/places etc.

Any help?! I have a stack of papers with loads of colleges, but its just really overwhelming...and with both parents gone and my friends not very interested in the subject, I could use a few outside opinions.

Thanks!

PS-I'll come up with a better post later...

Alright, the first week of school is nearly over. Wanna know the things I've learned so far?

-Calculus isn't that bad...so far.;)
-All science teachers are a tad-bit strange.
-Senioritis has not taken place just yet.
-Germs are bad.
-Government teachers are scary--as in they aren't afraid to threaten your grade because they already know the laws!

I've got to say this before I forget, but I most likely will not be on as much as I've been during the summer! My school work and extra-curricular activities already are sky high! And since I NEVER go the easy way out, I'm taking all of the hardest/advanced courses ever...so I've got to be on top of things. On top of all of the good stuff, I've got college applications to start and ACT...yeah...this is going to be so hectic!

Oh, did I mention that I'm sick already!

After three days in school I come out with the plague. Is it really that hard to wash your hands? Is it hard to cover your nose when you sneeze? To avoid coughing on people? Man, I guess because everyone is so packed in with each other germs are flying around like crazy. I counted today...I was waiting for my friend to finish her 'buisness' in the toilette...in 5 minutes, three girls left the stalls without WASHING THEIR HANDS! EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW WWWWWWWWW!

I think I'm going to make a shirt that says, "Don't spread your disease, wash your hands!" or something...

Speaking of shirts...My friend saw one that says, "Take care of the Earth, its not UR-ANUS!" HAHAHA!!!!!!!!! Isn't that great! I thought so!

On top of the stress, the hectic schedule, the bubonic plague, the shorter lunch hours....THEY'VE SEPERATED MY BESTEST FRIEND AND I! We are always together....our teachers mix us up. Her own boyfriend mixes us up(which is sad)....our friends mix us up. And the one year, our most important year of highschool, they decide to split us up. Thats against the law! So I eat lunch by myself, because all of my friends have either graduated or have 2nd lunch.:flare:

What else.....................................Oh, I have a bagel addiction. I bought so many bagels this week, its insane. They are still re-stocking...haha, okay not that much. I've got them in so many different vareties, varaties, varities..I don't know how to spell that word. Whatever...I'm so tired.

Well, I'm done for the day. I've got to hit the books again:(

I'll just leave you with the wise words of my Physics teacher.

"Don't shoot the girl you have a big crush on with a paintball gun as you drive by..."

Ciao. Ana
