Smiling at someone we do not know, is one of them....did you know your smile to a stranger could change their entire day?
Saying "hello" so someone you do not know can also make a difference. :smile5:

Helping to shovel out your neighbor that is elderly after a snow storm. Making sure they have food for the next couple of days.

Little things take nothing to some effort but they are rewarding.

My favorite little thing is reaching out...yah, I'm busy with work but reaching out and doing a bit of something, for someone; makes their lives easier.

So do you take the time to reach out and smile at strangers? It makes a big difference in how you see life. And what comes back to you.

If you don't, please try it. You may be pleasant surprised!!

What do you do to escape your everyday life? Let’s face it. Most of us live day to day in our life that is boring…..Are you Depressed (and don’t realize it) or do you just need an escape? If for nothing more than a JOLT to your emotional health and personal well-being what do you do to bring living (even if fantasy) back into your life?
Fantasy does count but not as much as actually doing.

Here are a few suggestions: There are so many things that you can do to escape this strange civilized world we as humans have created. Cook a meal that is different than anything you have ever tried. . Go to performances of your favorite band … or go to an art gallery. Go camping or hiking and experience nature. The key is to get started with something new.

One of the reports I read said boredom is most often conceptualized as "the averse experience of wanting, but being unable, to engage in satisfying activity." I think maybe my mind is too active but not directed; I will need to work on finding a satisfying activity…… I reckon we all have to get up off our asses and do something about it.

Only you can find your own excitement to dismiss your boredom (and possible depression). Take risks, go on adventures. And in whatever you do, be transparent and honest and safe. The real you will help you find what will make you happiest.

Here is wikipedia take on boredom....

Queen with Adam Lambert Concert

Well I saw "Queen" perform tonight with Adam Lambert and I don't care what the critics say...it was an extraordinary show! Of course it salutes Freddy Mercury and Lambert does a great job of honoring Freddy without trying to imitate him. It was done in good taste IMO. Some of the critics say that Lambert can't hit all the notes that Freddy could....duh! It still sounded great and Adam played the audience as well as Freddie. I have a video clip of him leading the audience it to singing....I will try to post it here.

Not to mention that Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, along with his 23-year-old son Rufus Tiger Taylor rounded out the backbeat on percussion, especially on "Tie Your Mother down"

If they are traveling your way and you enjoy "Queen's " songs I would strongly suggest you buy tickets! You won't be disappointed! And one more thing...your ears may "ring" for a few hours after...I could feel some of the bass drum hitting my heart!!

7/20 - Washington, DC, Merriweather Post Pavilion - This is the show I saw! Fabulous

7/22 - Boston, MA, TD Garden

7/23 - E. Rutherford, NJ, Izod Center

7/25 - Uncasville, CT, Mohegan Sun Arena

7/26 - Atlantic City, NJ, Boardwalk Hall

7/28 - Toronto, ON, Air Canada Centre
8/16 - Osaka, Maishima special site, Summer Sonic 2014 Festival, Ocean Stage - Buy Tickets

8/17 - Tokyo, QVC Marine Field/Makuhari Messe, Summer Sonic 2014 Festival, Marine Stage - Buy Tickets

Australian Tour Dates

8/22 - Perth, Perth Arena

8/26 & 27 - Sydney, Allphones Arena

8/29 & 30 - Melbourne, Rod Laver Arena

9/1 - Brisbane, Brisbane Entertainment Centre

All these tour dates are wonderful but I can help but wonder when the band members will burn out....playing the same set of songs every night or every other night, plus the travel. Hate to say it but most of them are not young chickens....but they have a heart of rock and roll and a lot of talent.....and for some reason musicians love to make us happy with their 'noise'!

Gotta love the musicians....they bring us joy, dance and sometimes solitude.

Best to You ~

Well I'm back with some exciting news! The Dpk received some new agility equipment last month! Yes, perhaps not that exciting but wait to you read how we got it.

I have a blind dog named Misfit that comes to the park. Misfit is another whole blog in himself as it is amazing to see him play and interact with people and dogs. It is amazing!

Back to point, Misfit's mommas wanted to donate something to the dog park and held an auction on Misfit's Facebook page. They got donations of items to be auctioned and then set up an on-line auction. They raised over $1800 US dollars! I think that is awesome; and then donated all of it to the dog park. Another group, HoCoDOG pitched in and with the funds was purchased for the Dpk an A Frame! If you are not familiar with what an A Frame is - it is a ramp that meets at a peak and then comes back down. The dogs love it!!!! And the owners who visit the park are now using more and more the other agility equipment that is there...a hoop and a tunnel. This is all good stuff as the dogs are learning new things and employing more of their minds and skills instead of running around chasing a ball or another dog.

I have attached three images.
The first is Misfit and his mommas.
The second is Brodie demonstrating the A Frame
The third is Kilo showing off jumping thru the hoop.

Getting your dog involved in agility training is good for both you and your dog. It makes them think and dogs are not stupid and they need metal simulations. I have had many patrons tell me "My dog will never do that." One such Owner was Brodie's Owner who was amazed when he played on the A Frame.

Many thanks to Misfit and his moms and HoCoDOG !
And for all you pet owners....give your pooch some credit. He/she probably knows more then you give them credit for!

Today was a long day at the Dog park.

With the wind chill it was 15F….that is cold to spend 5.5 hours out in. I did get some really good photos of the dogs thou 
I dress warm but it still takes a toll on me.

Anyway before I go into a numb case of mind I wanted to share a couple of things that occurred in my life today.
Why? I don’t know. They just “said something to me.”

I stopped by the market tonight after the Dpk to pick up some carrots for Z and some other small things. Got in the express lane of 15 items or less and as usual it was in a stall. Three people ahead of me and the lady at the checkout didn’t seem to have enuf cash to pay for what she bought. She started to rummage thru the packed grocery bags to see what she could take off of her order. The two pkgs of blueberries went and then a box of crackers and then she got to the eggs. I could not help but notice she never returned the bouquet of fresh cut flowers she had purchased……I spoke up and asked Lup (the sale clerk – I know everyone by name) and said what does she owe? Lup had her count out her money and she owed $4.00. I’ll pay it. Lup nodded her head and the lady turned and thanked me. I told her to just pay it forward.

Then I asked myself…was I just impatience or did I really want to help this person?

Anyone who will give up food to keep a fresh bouquet of flowers on their table to me means something. Perhaps it is cuz I have fresh flowers on my table year round. It keeps me aware of the awe of life. So I paid the $4.00 and the two other people in front of me said nothing.

Next I went down to the liquor store to purchase some wine. I passed by Jesse Wong’s Asian bistro which is awesome! I have a can in their carry out and know all by name….etc.….but in the vestibule of the restaurant I saw a man, in a sweater vest and nice slacks holding a bouquet of flowers and he was on his cell phone. I could hear him say “ No, that’s alright…you don’t have to apologize….I understand.” I kept walking. That left me with such a sad tone. I would image his date had stood him up at the last minute.

I wished I had the nerve cuz I would have stepped into that vestibule and asked him if he would like to dine with me.

Perhaps the evening just dwelled around bouquets of flowers?
Strange how they played into two separate events, one right after the other….
I can’t help but wonder what the Cosmos it trying to tell me.

ANY THOUGHTS?

Well right now I am bored and longing for something fresh and exciting…is it smell, hearing, sight or touch, I just need MORE to my life!

I have plenty of work to perform….actually I am behind on my work cuz I have gotten caught in the trap of repetition in doing the same dull thing every day. I have plenty of chores to do but none of them are interesting to me, yet I know they need to be dealt with….cleaned up and put away.

Have you ever felt this way?

I think the key word here is interesting.

So are you bored? What happens when you become bored with your life? It is then you become a victim of depression?

More than likely yes, you do.

Any suggestions or shares on what you do to beat you Boredom?

Dog Park #13 ~ The Dog Park Meets the Felony Lane Gang.

Unfortunately this is no joke. Back in July of 2012 the Worthington Dog Park experienced its first smash and grab break-in to a car parked in the lot. Then the number of break-ins increased and the nerve of the thieves to steal in broad day light in a filled parking lot with people coming and going with their dogs is incomprehensible. I have reported 6 such break-ins where shattered glass is the only evidence and I know there have been more that have happened when I was not there.

Picture the scene. It is a beautiful, Spring, mid-morning on Saturday and everyone with a dog is coming to the Dog Park where their dog can run free and play to theirs heart’s content. No one it thinking that today they will be robbed.

We have a parking lot that is connected to the lower lot and an over-flow lot across the street; often people end up parking on the road side as well. I probably see 100 to 150 dogs on a given Saturday or Sunday. That’s a lot of dogs. Each dog must be checked for proper tags in order to gain access to the park not to mention the new visitors to the park who need an orientation so they know the requirements and rules. On this particular Saturday which was 27 April there was even more going on at the Dpk as The American Cancer Society was having a fund raiser in the park across the street (known as the Upper Park) and there was an adoption event setting up in the back of the lower parking lot. I arrived early to help Sam (the other park attendant) with the over flow. I had just pulled in and stepped out of my vehicle when a man approached me and said,

“Looks like a car was broken into.”

The Felony Lane Gang had struck again. Even with all the traffic, coming and going, they had smashed another car window and stolen a purse. According to police, the Felony Lane Gang is a group of thieves from Broward County in South Florida who travel up and down I-95 and target vehicles in parking areas where moms are most likely to leave their wallet or purse. They target parks, day care centers, public gyms - where people feel safe leaving their valuables. I don’t know how many times after a break-in dog park patrons have said to me
“But this is a dog park!”

Authorities say women then take the identification, credit card and bank checks, alter their appearance to match the victim and use rented cars to go through the outer lane (or the “felony lane”) of the drive thru. They talk on cell phones while making the transaction to distract the teller.

This is not your typical break-in where the thief runs to an outlet store to buy electronics, clothes or food. This group is out to steal your life’s earnings. They try to cash checks for tens of thousands of dollars and wreck your life with identity theft…… Even at the Dog Park.

So the message here is to never, ever leave any valuables in plain sight in your car. Be smart, be safe and spare your life from being ruined.

Words from The Dog Park….
Woof!

Hello Everyone!
Good to see You again....I know I have been absent but hope to be writing more.

Here we go ~~~

I’m not trying to be morbid but for some strange reason I thought of this today while I was gardening! Perhaps it was cuz I was digging with my bare hands into the soil….who knows?

When I die I plan on being cremated as I don’t believe the physical body holds any merit; yet at the same time I found myself conjuring up this idea.

I would have my ashes divided up into four glass bottles and sealed air tight so they would float forever. I would request that they be taken out into to the ocean (which ocean I haven’t decided on yet) and each bottle tossed into the sea. However one must be tossed towards the north, one south, one east and one west. My logic behind this is that they would float to the four corners of the world and my spirit would see everything I have missed out on in life.

Perhaps I would have a note placed in each bottle so when it washed up on shore and was found the finder would be curious and break the seal and pry open the bottle. It would be as if leaving a Genie out of the bottle cuz my dust of once being would fill them and the land around my landing with my inner spiritual inheritances. All things would grow in abundance, thoughts would be lively and promising, honesty and goodwill would spread like wild fire. I could make a difference in the four corners of the world!

Now I just have to come up with something to write on the note!

Nice thought, huh?

Tis the season to be joy, Fa la la la ~ la la la la.

At this time of year many of us are in a giving mood, generous and want to believe that everyone is out to do well. I wonder. Perhaps I am just skeptical.

About a week ago as I was loading my groceries into my car a man approached me holding a gas can and asked if I could give him some money to buy gas. I told him all I had was my debit card and that I never carry cash, sorry. He pressed on that even perhaps $5.00; which would not even buy him two gallons of gas made me leery. “No, I’m afraid I cannot help you today. Sorry.”

I felt guilty….yes guilty as I drove away cuz what if he was telling the truth? But then again around the holidays a lot of folks try to take advantage of the giving season.

Two days ago I had a doctor’s appointment and as I left his office building and headed to my car I started to return some phone calls. I stood outside my car finishing up a call when a woman, who I would say was in her 50’s; appeared huffing and puffing and exclaiming how she was glad she caught up to me. She started to tell her tale that she had an appointment at the hospital across the street for a kidney injection and her mother dropped her off there at 7:00 AM. Her readings were low so they gave her some juice to drink and they kept her for a while before issuing the injection; her details were a little too much and something I really didn’t need to know. She introduced herself as Cynthia, asked my name and then presented me with her photo ID card and a debit card and went on to explain that she no longer lives at the address on the ID card but had moved to an area across town with her mother. Her mother was concerned cuz she had to be in another part of town for work by 8:30 and told Cynthia she would have to wait till 4:00 to be picked up. Cynthia felt sure she could catch the “green” county bus that ran to her side of town only to find out as she boarded the bus they discontinued that route about 6 months ago. So Cynthia called a cab and once in the cab presented her debit card which came up $13.55 short for the trip so the driver put her out at the gas station about a block away. She called her mother who then called the cab company only to find out they do not take credit cards over the phone cuz of repeated occurrences of them not going thru. So here is Cynthia standing in front of me with her ID and debit card in hand asking if I could help her by giving her $13.55. Her phone starts to ring and as she reaches into her pocket say “don’t worry I am not getting a gun just my phone.” I am wondering once again if this is a scam. She takes the call and says “mom, I’ll have to call you back as I am trying to get the money to get home. I am not feeling too well.”

So here I am. I know I have about $4.00 cash in my wallet and some change from my Animal Advocates change cans in the back seat so I count out for Cynthia $13.75; a twenty-five cents bonus and hand it over to her. She hugged me; god blessed me and went on her way. Now when I got in the car I looked for her but it was like she disappeared as quickly as she had appeared.
So what do you think?

Was this a holiday scam?
If anything her story was worthy of $13.75.

It was in November 2012 when the Kiss of Death entered the Dog Park like a demon in prey; death scored 3 more lives.

First it was Curly, a large black dog whose name suited him well. I saw him and his Owner just the day before and watched the loving scene of getting Curly to jump up into the back of the car… there were special hand signals and gestures to get the ‘jump’ going and completed and always the final warning ”get your tail in Curly!” Stan and Curly was a perfect match but unfortunately, cancer got the best of Curly.

The next news hit hard. Norma had been coming to the Dog Park with her Shih Tzu for about 5 years. The adorable Gigi always greeted me so excitedly. Norma was one to step up and address any wrong-doings in the park. She loved what the park offered her, which was time with human friends and also time for loveable Gigi to run with her canine companions.

A friend of Norma’s offered to take Gigi to the park since Norma had not been feeling well. When her friend returned home with Gigi, they found Norma had a heart attack and died. Death marks off its second victim, and this was only one short week after the loss of Curly.

The thought that “death occurs in three’s” kept tumbling around in my brain and I prayed that it was only an old superstition. Yet deep inside I knew there would be one more, so I kept watching the park with a close eye, looking for the dark bird of prey.

I didn’t have to wait long. I received news this morning of the third stone dropping. Phoebe fell ill and died on the 21st, one day after Norma. Phoebe was an original dog to the 10 year old Dog Park but her death was unexpected.

Today it was cold and very windy at the Dog Park. But I remain hopeful the vulture of death has left our small, united community of people and their pets. It left behind many broken hearts and tears upon our path of life.

I wish them all peace and some form of sanity for the ones they left behind.

Hi everyone!

I know I am skipping some posts but this happened just today and I wanted to share it!

It was a little before 5:00 pm at the Dpk and I was breaking down mutt mitt boxes for recycle when a vehicle pulled into the lot; an Asian man walked down towards me with his iPhone in hand. His friend had come home to find a stray dog with no collar or tags and only a lead sitting in front of his home.

He scrolled his phone for a picture.

“Has anyone here been looking for this dog?”

“No” I sighed looking at the photo of a Papillion with brown and black markings

“I will ask around.”

“He has no tags so we don’t know what to do with him.”

“It looks like your friend has him in his home?”

“Yes, it is cold.”

I suggested that they take the dog down to Countryside Vet Clinic and check to see if he had a microchip.

“That way if the owners’ were smart enuf to microchip their dog he will get back home.”

“Great idea!” the man proclaimed “We would never have thought of that.”

I gave him directions, told him it wasn’t far and off he went.

I wrapped up at the Dpk at 5:55 and also had to go Countryside to pick up some food for Zeus.

As I opened the door I heard the excited voices, saw the young girl clutching close to her chest the very same dog I had seen in the photo an hour ago. Her brother stood next to her petting the dog and dad was beaming with relief.

“Hey, you guys found your dog! This is great!”

I told them that I worked at the Worthington Dog Park; pointing to the logo on my sweatshirt, and relayed the story of what happened and how I suggested the man bring the dog here to check for micro chipping.

The girl stroked the back of the dog’s neck and said
“Yes, he is micro chipped!”

Dad extended his hand and I shook it with a firm chilly shake.
“Thank you very much.” He said
“You are welcomed. Sorry my hand is so cold.”
“You may have a cold hand but your heart is very warm.”

“You really should have a collar with ID as well” I said stepping up to pet the re-found pup.

They all agreed and thanked me over and over again…

“I didn’t find your dog I just helped to lead it back home. Please make sure you thank the person who took the steps to bring you all back together.”

Dad thanked me again and with grins on all of their faces (even the pup) they left to go home.

I bet that dog gets lots of love tonight! :yesnod:

"Where did the time go?"

I have much to share of the last 4 months. Wow, 4 months....it seemed like years yet it pasted as quickly as a summer's thunder storm.

Contradiction I know, but it seemed to take forever to get things done and and at the same time I never seemed to have enuf time.

Once this week is over (swoosh!) I will be back to share this year's pooch's pool party, the 10th anniversary of the Dpk, the first and only T-shirt for the Dpk designed by the patrons and my final event coming up this Saturday...The Walk for Paws.

Where does the time go? Remember when you were young and bored cuz you had sooooo much time and now....

Do you think that it is cuz we are getting slower and that is why time seems to be moving faster?

Dog Park #10 Dog Gone Double Luck

The dog park was busy and around 7:00 pm the predicted storm started to move in eared marked by ominous heavy clouds; by 7:25 the sky had grown dark and thunder was audible in the distance. It started to sprinkle and there was an exodus of the park. However Eddie and his owner, Ned; held out. Now Eddie a large English Pointer had been chasing a ball thrown by Ned for over a half hour and was hot. He made his way up to the 5’ by 4’ area below the fountain where the run off had created quite a mud pit; here Eddie decided to cool off and walloped in the mud…he did not just lay in it but pressed his full body into it. He merged his face, dug his shoulders into in, rolled on his back and skidded every which way possible into the mud and then started to frantically dig into the smelly dog urine mud. I ran in to stop him but it was too late; the once white with brown markings Pointer was now chocolate with a choking odor...as thou transformed into a pig who just plunged into a mire bath. He shook and mud went everywhere and now the rain was just lightly falling.

Prior to this I was going to leave as the park was empty except for Eddie and Ned. I offered a towel and to hook the hose up in the small dog park to wash him off. As Ned and I washed down Eddie, while the rain was gently falling; over my shoulder appeared this. At first it was only a single rainbow and very vibrant and strong in colour and then it turned into a double rainbow! I had never seen a double rainbow before! Have You?

It was magical and I stepped back and left Ned and Eddie to take care of them selves and pulled out my camera……I felt such a bond with the path being paved thru the heavens. It was if the two rainbows laid down a “yellow brick road” to happiness and good vibes… if I had not offered to stay and help I would never have seen the double rainbow….the rainbow was enchanting….

Ted stopped drying off Eddie “double rainbows are supposed to be good luck! Hear that Eddie, that means no more mud baths.”

So I clicked my heels three times and wished to be home and had a hot, cleansing shower ……and I still can’t get the images out of my mind.
