After almost six full months, I have now landed a new job. It's been really difficult trying to gain employment in these hard times. The hardest part to getting a career job has been caused by the internet. Although the internet makes it easier to search for all of the job opportunities, it also makes it easier for all the other Johns, Joes, and Janes to search also. There was one factory nearby that I went to personally. After the ad hit the newspaper, I went straight down to the plant to apply in person, to make that first impression, but the response that I received from the receptionist was, "You can apply....online!"

I'm just another entry into a database of who knows how many. I'm not even a smartly arranged resume printed on an elegant stationary. I'm not a clean cut, well dressed individual with a smile on my face showing that I'm eager to show someone my abilities and qualifications. I'm not the face of initiative. I'm not a go getter. For now companies don't even give you a contact name and phone number. They only give you a link to click.

But I did find a company (the only company around) that I was able to fill out an application by hand. I received a phone call by a real person (not just another part of a Human Resources Department). The individual was able to talk to me directly, assess my abilities, and make a sound decision.

It's a small steel fabrication company but even larger than the company that I was working for before. Originally founded in 1948, it is an AISC certified, woman owned business that has been thriving for many years. They have hired me in to help save them money. I started on Thursday as their new Document Quality Control person. It is my job to review their specs, drawings, and various documents for errors and out of the ordinary costs that may get overlooked. Within minutes of receiving my first set of drawings, I was able to immediately detect errors, some of which would have cost additional time and resources.

It feels good to be needed.

The lofty height of baskets made
the abode from which she sings

The first flight a scary trip
the maiden voyage made
the greatest journey that one takes
from memory never fade

So eager to jump from the safe
into the unknown sky
to fly with buzzards, ravens, crows,
to see things from so high

The eaglet lifts up from the pad
to meet with gravity
soon to see that the flight
meets with depravity.

But there will be another day
for your wings to open wide
to soar with others much you size
to explore the countryside.

Each night as the ball retires
Into the sea of waves
The boiling cauldron it becomes
Another world it paves

Without its guidance way up there
There needs to be another
Not as big or illuminating
But maybe a little brother

The lunar friend that we have
Bears many different faces
Some nights it is a smile alone
Without light for some dark places

Some say that he is made of cheese
Then others make reference to a man
You can lay below on beaches so
But you will never get a tan

As this one travels in the path
Effects are great and small
The tides are up and down by him
And he changes the moods of all

From east to west he does abound
Making romantic walks each night
But sometimes his sense of humor
Sends people full of fright

We all will share this sibling so
Ev'n though hidden he may be
He is the our guidance by the night
So in the dark we all may see

The sweets are baked and cooling now
while children drift off to scenes of deer,
the milk half drank and sugar licked
an intruder came to spread some cheer.
Although I've enjoyed many of the games, I have been trying to figure out the benefits of visiting this site. If I can add a profitable aspect to this site, I could give some time to do that. However, I have found many of the discussions to be unprofitable Christian bashing episodes. Many of the threads that have been added are totally unrelated to literature and have been added to spark controversial discussion that attacks Christian values.

Is this site worth the time that I could apply to it? Will I be missed if I choose to leave? who here wants me to stick around?

I can tell that this is a very real disorder that many have to deal with...(yeah, I know a sentence shouldn't end in a preposition). It interferes with life every day. Not only are there distractions from every little task, but there are also memory challenges. There are some great ideas and thoughts that are gone in a moment. (It's really hard when you have a 5 y/o at home.) The disorder is compounded by the accelerated rate which our society tries to go by...(there's that preposition again). Even something as small as a preposition can distract you. We are encouraged to do multi-tasking, but this is a certain way to start multiple tasks to be distracted from finishing any of them.

Living with ADD is a nightmare, because it is so easy to leave tasks incom

When I say classic films...I don't mean anything that has been produced in my lifetime. (I was born in 1972 for those who don't know.) The classics were made back when acting was genuine, special effects was an art of lighting and sound effects, and no one ever noticed the fake looking background because they were focused the PLOT!! Yes, and there was a PLOT. The men were human, the women were real, and you had to jab your gun at someone to make it fire.

If you'd like to talk about your favorite classic films, there is a new group forum called Classic Films (yeah...it's a real original name).

I find it interesting to see all of the Avatars that everyone has chosen. As I get to know each of you a little, it intrigues me even more as to why each of you have chosen your Avatars. Here I go first.

This is a depiction of Jean Valjean, the main character in the book Les Miserables. Bienvenu (which in some languages closely resembles the word for 'Welcome') was a minor character, the Bishop of Digne. The Bishop had a profound effect on the ex-convict Valjean by bestowing his hospitality on him. Valjean dedicated his life to virtue and serving others. Bienvenu and Valjean are both an inspiration to how I live my life.

I chose this particular depiction for its simplicity and humility that I saw in it. I hope that I can someday fulfill that in my life.

Okay...your turn!!
