Hi everyone. Thanks for all of your heartfelt concern. I turned the computer off during the storm and have been glued to the tv set ever since - the images are stunning. Thankfully I am safe and sound and so is the rest of my family; we didn't even get a drop of water in the house - basements inclued - and the power did not go off. The storm was something to talk about, but we were prepared and most of the bad stuff happened down by the coastline, although the rain and wind here were pretty crazy at times and a bit unnerving. It must have been horrifying at the Jersey shore and parts of NY and RI. Yes, Virgil it looks quite descimated at the Jersey coast (about 60 miles from here) and much of the beautiful boardwalks were detroyed, but most importantly, the flooding of homes and destruction appear (by the news coverage) to be as a war zone - so sad and so tragic for all concerned. I can't imagine it, and it has to be cold by now for those poor people. I think by now over 90 people have perished and yes, Virgil, many from standing under a falling tree (better let the dog stay in next time) wink. From the news reports on TV Breezy point looks worse and Hobogan was under water by 4 ft or so. Staten Island did look very hard hit. I am greatful that Virgil and his family are fine and barely affected except for power. Did it resume for you, V? I will keep all of you updated as things happen since it will take a huge effort to begin the cleanup I am sure.

This is dedicated to my darling grand-daughter, Brooke, in honor of her first birthday; which took place last Thurs. My son and his wife had a big party on Saturday. It was a wonderful day for all, especially Brooke!

I wish to follow up this post with another, in which, I will post a selection of photos of the first year of Brooke's life, starting with some hospital shots, through to her first birthday.

Prior to the party, shopping sure is fun!
Baby/toddler girl's summer clothes are so darn cute, I can't restrain myself, when I go to the baby department. Here's some I bought her for her special day. You should see the bathing suits, adorable!

Brooke liked the melons best! Grandma Myra and Brooke.

The backyard with tents and guests; thankfully, the clouds held off and it turned out to be a beautiful warm sunny day. I should have taken a photo; to the left, just outside the fence, was a giant inflatable castle, bouncy chamber; the kids sure enjoyed that! so did some of the adults, including my son; he had his friend over on Sunday with his two kids to bouce around in it with his wife, even Brooke.

Brooke's parents made up these sandbucket:p party favors for all the kids; they had stick-on letters for the names and were very colorful!

A friend of my daughter-in-law's mom holding Brooke.

Milk is still the best comfort food!

Time for the lighting of the one candle, my birthday song and the first taste of my cake - guess what? Brooke didn't care to have any parts of that cake. "Give me melons anyday!" She also preferred chewing on the pink spoon...much more entertaining.

Well, the other kids were not of the same mindset. Dillon, on the left was diving into his cake enthusiastically.

The party broke up and we stayed on...the two grannies, pop-pop, the greatgrannie and Brooke's great aunt, and her great-great aunt...
So time for Brooke's big gift - her new rocking horse. Her daddy took her out on
Wednesday to pick it out; she even tried it out in the store. She just loves it. It's so cute; the head has batteries and when you squeeze the ears it neighs and makes a 'clippity clop' sound. It even has a saddle. Just the thing for a 'little miss cowgirl'. I must find her a nice cowgirl hat or outfit, so she can ride in style.

"Mom, I love my new pony!"

I wasn't fast enough, but she kisses the pony's nose; that made my heart melt.

Her other grannie and pop-pop bought her this adorable monogramed arm-chair....
"this one's just right" said Goldielocks!

Grandmom Myra made me a crocheted comforter; Grandma Janine gave me my first baby doll. Wow, not much room left for me!

Oops...I lost my blue block....it's here somewhere...

Birthday tu tu's are wonderful for playing 'peek a boo'....always resoureful...
(she gets that from me! haha)

"The Thinker"...it's been a long day....and I just want to mull things over and relax...

I am so happy to announce that I have received my new computer, and I now have it up and running. I am happy to report that I am online once again at home (not my library or a friend‘s house, which was quite restrictive). I extend my heartfelt thanks to all of you, who most generously gave to the fund to help secure me a new computer. The computer is just great and I am can post faster; I know this will make posting such a pleasure from here onward. I can more readily backup all my research data and better serve this great online community now and in the future.

I am so honored and 'touched' beyond mere words to think that my friends missed me so much and participated in this commendable endeaver to have me back posting in this wonderful online community; I love it here and missed everyone so much! You are all great friends, even if you did not contribute monetarily, you give back to me, in so many ways, by ‘being there‘, when I need a friend…so many of you PM‘d me this past month, making sure I was ok or safe, wondering where I had run off to; this means a great deal to me.

I love my new computer and to those who did contribute, I wanted to extend my heartfelt thanks. I don’t know what I would have done without your generosity; it would have been a struggle to buy a new one, at this time. I have yet to solve a few problems in retrieving files on my disabled computer, but I am working that out systematically and a solution is close at hand; so hopefully, I have not lost any data (especially my literature research) or photos/stored music.

I especially want to thank the moderators - Logos and Scher, since they actively participated in making this happen. Scher went out of her way to keep me up-to-date and assure me that accepting this help, was the right thing to do. My thanks goes to Admin who ordered the computer and had it send to me so promptly, etc. Thank you all for your time and effort!

With warmest appreciation ~ Janine
