  1. War is kind of boring

    by , 02-20-2009 at 10:45 PM (My Random Drops of Unadulterated Nonsense)
    Well, I've been deployed for a little over a month now. The time is actually going by pretty quickly, which is nice, but I'm having to find new ways everyday to combat the boredom. I spend a lot of time working out, I have to get my beach-body back before my trip to Hawaii later on this year. I have to run on a treadmil, though, because I can't exactly go out for a nice long run outside. I think that's one of the things I miss most about home... that and beer... glorious, glorious beer. They actually ...

  2. Love and Air and Angels

    There is nothing new under the sun.
    But equally, all is new.
    All is stamped by Your Handprint.
    Each leaf contains the fractal pattern of all,
    and the presene of each flows from your presence divine.

    There are no words for leaves or flowers,
    Yet we stamp and stop at the word, saying thus
    is all there is, missing the essence,
    and feeling not
    the connection to any of nature's limbs.

    All my life stems and flows from ...

  3. Resolutions of a modest man

    by , 02-20-2009 at 12:30 AM (Silas Thorne's Journal)
    I will get up long before I go to bed
    crack walnuts on a face
    like thin felt over a concrete floor,
    chase lean deer on mountainsides
    and pound the whole world flat beneath my feet.

    I will fart plentifully, with the fragrance of pot pourri
    and all those who look upon me will tremble
    and shiver like small birds
    trapped in a walk-in ...

  4. So many words to speak that the tongue cannot utter.

    I’m in a strange mood today. Piano and rain and poetry would put a person in a reflective, melancholy mood, I suppose.

    A shadowy tumult stirs the dusky air;
    Sparkle the delicate dews, the distant snows;
    The great deep thrills – for through it everywhere
    The breath of Beauty blows.

  5. Reprieve

    Finally got old friend Jerry formally of Merced CA now residing in a log cabin at Rogue River OR and discussed the seeming reversal of fortunes that has occured. Proper sympathies made but strangly unwilling to have a house guest that never gets around to leaving for the rest of my uneventful but odd life. Sigh--friends SAY they love you.

    Great news on his part. After dreaming of it for decades he is going with a tour group to Israel for a month. He and a couple will split from ...
