    We’ve been having some really grand days out recently. Our latest trip finally took us to the zoo (my daughter has now stopped nagging!) and this time we went to the South Lakes Wildlife Park, which is near Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria (which you might know as the Lake District). Now I’m not overly fond of zoos; I don’t like to see animals cooped up that belong in the wild, but this one, as zoos go, was really nice.   3. Midnight Ride

    It was the last overnight ride of the summer, and we had a family of four that really didn't want anything to do with us. Brad and I gladly left them be, happy to be away from Mike's constant Brokeback jokes and lude comments about our fellow staff members. We sat by our own little fire until it burned out, sipping Forty Creek Whiskey, discussing the problems with our world, our jobs, our futures and whatnot.     I went with my friend, Marc. He's three years older than I, and we've been very good friends since I was in sixth grade. He's like the big brother my parents were never able to give me.     It's completely dark outside and I have about 15 candles lit. I bought Mao today, thinking about starting it tonight, have wanted to read it for a while but didn't find the time or something but now I'm thinking about getting around to it, we'll see.
