Last year we spent a few days with my sister in Toledo, Ohio, and not far from her home is an open field and woods. I decided to get up early and walk about with my camera, hoping to catch some deer in a picture. Unfortunately the deer were too smart for me, but it was a gloriously foggy morning with the sun breaking through. I was thinking about that phrase the other day 'sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees' and I realised sometimes I want to see the trees. Sometimes I like to look at things up close, it reminds me how special and complex and intense the world can be. Perhaps the phrase should be 'sometimes you can't see the trees for the wood'? I think Romans 11 is my newest favorite chapter in the Bible. Romans is a cool book. I read it through a while ago, taking my time, reading each chapter two or three times before moving on to the next one. When I finished reading it through I didn’t want it to end.
