I taught my first college-level English class when I was 22 years old. I was a new graduate student in an MA/Ph.D program and was given free tuition and meager stipend to teach two sections of freshman English.

Most of the students in the my classes were 18 or 19.

I was proud to teach these classes. But I was insecure as hell. I had big ideas of being an inspiration, but had real stage-fright and insecurity issues.

So, as I wait for my friend, O.K. his name is Hardeo, there are lots of Hardeos in the world, who's to say. LM was pouring tea and talking about a scar in the desert that she says is supposed to be art but, in her estimation, is not. The old man is gone again and I'm looking at the time and thinking Hardy and Jus could be back any minute. But they are not. I had thought I made this poem quite clear, but perhaps it is only clear to me, becasue I know what lies behind it, becasue elsewhere I have posted the poem people seem not to understand the true meaning so I thought I should explain. The poem is intended to be about the struggle of those who are transgendered and the conflicts of idenity they struggle with, both thier own and the ideity soceity tries to fit them into.
